MIAMI, FL.- A Container Village for Young Art 20 young galleries will be showing exciting projects by their up-and-coming artists in shipping containers that have been converted into exhibition spaces.
«Art Positions» will also be the center for a new platform introduced this year: «Art Perform», curated by Jens Hoffmann, ICA, London, will showcase daily performances by internationally renowned artists. «Art Positions» will likewise be home base to the «Art Sound Lounge», produced in association with PS1, New York. The internet radio station WPS1.org will be streaming live for several hours a day. PS1 will also be presenting New York artist-DJs during the Happy Hour (710 p.m.). Opening Night of «Art Positions» on November 30 is open to the public and features a free concert. «Art Positions» promises once again to become a vibrant center for art projects outside the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Art Basels long-standing tradition of promoting young galleries and young art is reinforced in Miami Beach. On the beach at Collins Park, only a few minutes walk from the Miami Beach Convention Center, Art Basel Miami Beach provides 20 young galleries with exhibition spaces in converted shipping containers. «Art Positions» offers galleries that can not yet afford the expense of participating in international art fairs an attractive and inexpensive alternative for showing their up-and-coming artists. We are pleased to have W South Beach with us at Art Basel Miami Beach as a sponsor of «Art Positions».
Of the over 100 applications submitted, the Selection Committee has chosen 20 innovative, promising galleries, 15 of which are new to the sector and 5 of which are past participants. They come from the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Russia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, and Greece.
Showing a broad spectrum of contemporary art, they invite visitors to discover new artists. Last years exhibitors Air de Paris, Paris (installation by the Parisian artist duo M/M [Michael Amzalag, Mathias Augustyniak]), Spencer Brownstone Gallery, New York (installation by Ian Burns), Galerie Karin Guenther Nina Borgmann, Hamburg (thematic exhibition on the subject of film, with Jeanne Faust, Nina Könnemann, and Gunter Reski), Galerie Kamel Mennour, Paris (one person show of Adel Abdessemed), Peres Projects, Los Angeles (group exhibition featuring Folkert de Jong, Matt Greene, and John Kleckner), and Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, Los Angeles (Edgar Arceneaux, Rodney McMillian).
