NEW YORK.-Following a stellar spring season, Christies New York offered its largest ever September sale of Prints and Multiples, with over 640 lots, adding a third session to the two-day sale on September 28 and 29. With two sessions of the sale devoted to Post-War & Contemporary art and a third one to Old Master, 19th Century, Modern and Modern American art, a wide variety of prints is available for both new and established collectors with estimates ranging from $600 to $5,000. The sale featured fresh and hot names from the contemporary art scene such as Glenn Goldberg, Mary Heilmann, Mike Kelly and Martin Kippenberger.
The total sold was $1,865,160 with 638 lots offered, of which 523 were sold. After Marc Chagall, The Magic Flute, by Charles Sorlier, lithograph in colors, 1967 sold for $28,800. Andy Warhol, Flowers: One Plate (F. & S. 68), screenprint in colors, 1970 sold for $20,400. Marino Marini, From Color to Form: Seven Plates (G. L93-96, 99-101), 7 lithographs in colors, 1969 sold for $20,400.
