MIAMI, FLA.- LnS Gallery is currently presenting the solo exhibition Lasting Impressions: A Cessation of Existence by Jennifer Basile, which will continue through to November 19, 2022. The works in this exhibition capture moments in time of Floridas Everglades and are a fusion of the artists innovative process and passion for the magical, fragile beauty of the unique ecosystem. A master printmaker, this is Basiles second solo exhibition at LnS Gallery featuring works created in 2021 and 2022, derived from numerous trips to Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve and Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Lasting Impressions: A Cessation of Existence is in view now at LnS Gallery located at 2610 SW 28th Lane, Miami, FL, through November 19, 2022. My message is simple, to capture the environment in all of its pure and natural beauty, before it is permanently changed, says Basile.
Each rendering featured in this exhibition is directly inspired by the numerous and unique biomes that comprise the three national parks, along with their native flora and fauna. The imagery not only confronts the very real dangers imposed upon these threatened ecosystems, but exudes the beauty contained within the landscapes, embracing visitors by way of magnificent grand-scale prints.
This exhibition is among Basiles most ambitious work to date. She will present a monumental relief print measuring 10 by 27 feet to immerse viewers in the swamy serenity of the Cypress Domes, and present jewel-like small format mixed-media works to create illustrative terrariums that highlight the inhabitants of these majestic lands, creating her desired effect through the layering of wood, linoleum relief prints, glassine, drafting film, graphite, and acrylic.
Jennifer Basile is not just a printmaker, but an artist in the fullest extent. Using a one-of-a-kind mentality, in a medium inherent of multiples, Basile works in editions of one, paralleling the nature of her subjects: we have one world, and we must treat it as such, said Luisa Lignarolo, co-owner of LnS Gallery.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue featuring an insightful essay by Elisa Turner where she states, [Basiles] art offers a distinctive take on the activist confluence of two streams of art history. Even as this years climate crisis battered Yellowstone National Park with rampaging floods, we must remember that over a century ago artist Thomas Moran helped spur this country to recognize Yellowstone as a natural treasure. Closer to our own time, prolific black and white photographer Clyde Butcher is widely admired for his elegant images of the Everglades. They embody a similar desire to promote public awareness of the need to conserve our at-risk natural resources. Over several years, Basile has created her own imagery of national parks and the Everglades. It can be seen in the context of this well-known art historical tradition embracing environmental advocacy. Basiles artistic activism is both highly subtle and intensely memorable.
Jennifer Basile earned her Master of Fine Arts in Painting & Printmaking at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting & Printmaking at the University of Miami. She is in her 20th year as art educator at Miami-Dade College. Basiles love for the environment is rooted in her childhood, when she discovered its avenues of escapism and meditation. Throughout her extensive travels and perfected talent, she has combined this passion with the long sought-after tradition of landscape renderings which she adopted and transformed through her printing practice. In time, she has developed a narrative around advocacy and awareness using her art as a platform to discuss the pertinent issues to the world we live in.
