EDINBURGH.- Lyon & Turnbull are to introduce a new sale dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art to their London calendar championed by newly-appointed Modern & Contemporary art specialist Simon Hucker. He joins the firm this month as Associate Director and Senior Specialist and will work alongside Head of Modern Art & Design Phillip Smith at Lyon & Turnbulls London gallery near Hyde Park. This brand-new dedicated sale will, for its first edition, run alongside the firms highly successful Modern Made auction, in April 2023.
Simon Hucker has worked in the Modern & Contemporary art world in London since the late 1990s, both at auction and in galleries. He was a Senior Specialist and Co-Head of the Modern & Post War British Art department at Sothebys, London, where he was responsible for a number of sales of major private collections, most notably the record-breaking auction of David Bowies personal art collection in 2016.
Before joining Sothebys, Simon was a Director at Jonathan Clark Fine Art, where he worked closely with the estates and families of leading post-war British artists. He has written extensively on Modern and Contemporary art including a monograph on the British Modernist sculptor George Kennethson.
I am really excited to be joining Lyon & Turnbull says Simon. The team have a great reputation in the art world for being friendly and approachable, as well as knowledgeable, which is important to me both personally and professionally. Ive been a fan of Philips Modern Made sales since their inception, so I am really looking forward to working with him. Our new sale will no doubt have a strong British flavour to it, however I am interested in exploring the synergy between modern and contemporary British art and its counterparts in Europe, Asia and America.
Simon has been welcomed to the team by Managing Director Gavin Strang, I am delighted that Simon has chosen to join our fantastic London team. His experience, knowledge and enthusiasm make him a great addition and we are looking forward to adding the new sale he will be driving to our growing auction calendar in the capital.
Philip Smith added: I am thrilled that Simon is joining our specialist Modern & Contemporary Art team in London and am looking forward to working closely alongside him in developing new and market-leading sales for Lyon & Turnbull at an exciting time for the company and market.
