SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Gallery 181, a highlight of 181 Fremont’s art program located in a half-floor penthouse 700 feet high in San Francisco’s acclaimed first LEED Platinum-certified mixed-use building, announced a new exhibition and the first presentation in San Francisco by the renown Brazilian Gallery Nara Roesler “ Lines of Abstraction" which showcases Brazilian artists Artur Lescher, Abraham Palatnik, Amelia Toledo, and Tomie Ohtake. The exhibition proposes a reflection on the legacy of Constructivism in Brazilian Modern and Contemporary art, offering an overview of different approaches to its vocabulary and principles. This exhibition also offers the first opportunity to see more works by Tomie Ohtake, whose work was recently acquired by SFMOMA, joining its permanent collection. Lines of Abstraction will run from September 22 – November 19, 2022.

Nara Roesler is a leading Brazilian contemporary art gallery, representing seminal Brazilian and international artists who emerged in the 1950s as well as preeminent mid-career and emerging artists who dialogue with the currents put forth by these historical figures. Founded by Nara Roesler in 1989, the gallery has consistently fomented curatorial practice while upholding the utmost quality in art production. This has actively been put into practice through a select and rigorous exhibitions program created in close collaboration with its artists; the implementation and fostering of the Roesler Curatorial Project, a platform for curatorial projects; and continued support to artists beyond the gallery space, working with institutions and curators in offsite shows.

"I am excited to be working with Gallery 181 on this unique project, where Nara Roesler will be presenting works by seminal Brazilian artists Tomie Ohtake, Amelia Toledo, Abraham Palatnik, and Artur Lescher. In presenting works by artists who have been recently introduced to the North American, and specifically the Bay Area audience, such as Tomie Ohtake who has just recently joined the permanent collection of SFMOMA, we hope to offer the local public a more in-depth presentation of artists who are beginning to integrate key institutions around them.” - Frederik Schampers, Director, Nara Roesler New York.

Led by art advisor Holly Baxter, 181 Fremont’s art program is among the most innovative and comprehensive ever to exist in a private residential building. In addition to a permanent collection, there are over 200 paintings, sculptures and mixed material works displayed throughout the building. 181 Fremont also hosts world-class exhibitions within residences and at Gallery 181, created to host ongoing pop-up exhibitions and events celebrating art, the performing arts and more.
