Whole Wheat Cake
There are times when you need to go beyond the ordinary and do something extra special for your loved ones. If you are looking for a
birthday cake that is not your ordinary chocolate or vanilla, you should consider baking a whole wheat cake for them.
The whole wheat cake is truly unique and delicious. This type of cake contains whole grains, which are rich in fibre and nutrients. They also contain less sugar than most cakes.
Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or butter (optional)
2 eggs
Sugar
Milk
Steps:
Sift the flours together into a mixing bowl using a sifter or colander. This will remove large pieces from your flour and help you mix them evenly.
Add 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 teaspoons baking powder to the mixture.
Measure out 3/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup oil and 2 eggs into another bowl or measuring cup and whisk until well combined.
Combine the wet ingredients and dry ingredients, mixing just until they are blended. You don't want to overmix, or your cake will be tough!
Pour the batter into two greased 8-inch round cake pans and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Insert a toothpick into the centre of the cake; if it comes out clean, the cake is made. Allow cooling completely before frosting.
Cut the skin around the edge of the cake with a knife and lift it off.
Let it cool and serve.
