The Bicycle Revolution: 5 Changes to Celebrate
Bikes played an integral part in social movements. So let’s look at these revolutionary changes we should celebrate because of the impact of bicycles.

Bicycles have been one of the most popular ways of transportation for more than two centuries. It has a rich history of innovation, design, and social movement. Even in this modern era of technological advancements, traditional bikes' appeal and attraction are still the same.

Bicycles have gone through a series of evolution. But it also played a big part in the revolutionary changes in society and people’s perceptions. Both actively and passively, bikes were involved in shaping our modern world. The changes that were made because of the revolution of bikes paved the way for a better society. So here are five of the significant changes to celebrate because of the bicycle revolution.

1. Highways for Bicycles

In recent years, there has been a massive increase in bicycle usage. In almost every part of the world, people have started using bikes regularly. They seem more comfortable commuting on bikes, especially in city areas. One of the main reasons for frequent bike usage is the excessive traffic in city areas. There has been a huge number of cars, and as a result, traffic has become unbearable. That’s why city people are using bicycles as their primary vehicle. Because of the increasing number of bikes, the authorities had to make a dedicated lane only for bicycles.

Copenhagen is one of the few cities that started the trend of cycling superhighways. This initiative ensured the convenience and safety of the bikers. The bike industry started producing the best road bikes to keep up with the demand. Many cities in the United States are following the footprint of Copenhagen. Atlanta and Minneapolis have finished constructing freeways for bikes. All these projects are undertaken to ensure the safety and convenience of the bike riders.

2. Establishment of Bike Laws

Another revolutionary change that everyone should celebrate is the implementation of bike laws. We all know that most city streets are full of heavy cars and trucks. This often makes it dangerous for bikers to ride freely on busy streets. Accidents may occur at any time, and people can get hurt.

That’s why many cities are implementing new laws and regulations to ensure the safety of the bikers in the streets. Cars and heavy vehicles now need to follow specific guidelines to avoid collision with the bikers. More cycle lanes are being constructed, and bicycle riders must follow proper safety gear to protect themselves from unwanted occurrences.

3. The Era of Electric Bikes

We have seen the ultimate peak of technological advancements in the last couple of decades. People’s lives have changed drastically because of the massive development of technology and science. From engineering to product development, everything is improved with greater technology. This trend has also redefined the structure of modern bicycles.

With the new technology, bicycle manufacturers have developed a new breed of bicycle called Electric Bikes. An E-bike looks just like a regular bike. But there is a rechargeable battery attached to it. This battery gives a power boost to the pedal, which will help you increase the speed without putting much effort. With E-bikes, you can cover a long distance with ease.

These battery-assisted bikes have gained huge popularity among people of all ages. The increased safety features and comfort made E-bikes an instant success. People often can’t take long trips with their bikes because of low stamina and other health reasons. Battery-assisted E-bikes can be a great solution to these problems. It also created enthusiasm among older people because of its convenience and safety features.

4. Bicycle Empowering Women

Although bicycles are used for transportation, they silently made a massive impact in solidifying women's equality. In the 18th century, women were oppressed and deprived of their freedom and rights. At that time, the modern bike invention was a blessing to women. In 1880, a new kind of bike named “Rover Safety Bicycle” came to the market. The design, convenience, and safety factors attracted many women to cycling.

As a result, many women started using bikes as their daily commuting vehicles. At that time, bikes gave women a sense of freedom they never had before. They no longer had to rely on men for transportation. Women started to have more confidence as bicycles empowered them. They used bikes in the famous suffrage movement to gain women’s voting rights. These bikes had a long-lasting effect that went beyond centuries. To recognize these bikes, an exhibition called "Cycling in the City: A 200-Year History" was organized at the New York museum. This show represented the evolution of old bikes and their functionality to the new generation.

5. Riding to a Sustainable Future

Fossil fuels are one of the biggest culprits of environmental pollution and global warming. Numerous organizations and environmental activists are working tirelessly to reduce the usage of fossil fuels. But unfortunately, there is a huge number of vehicles that require fossil fuel. Besides, there has been a massive increase in fuel prices as well. From a financial standpoint, using fossil fuels is not a wise decision.

So it's a major problem, and we must figure out a sustainable solution to save our planet. Bicycles can be a great addition to that solution. Bikes don't require any fuel, and it's a perfect vehicle to roam in city areas. By using bikes frequently, we can reduce the usage of fossil fuels and make the environment safer.

Riding bikes can be cheaper, and you can significantly minimize your transportation cost. Local governments and non-profit organizations are currently working to promote the usage of bicycles. So bikes can also play a crucial role in making an eco-friendly future.

Conclusion

Bicycles had an incredible history of socio-political impact. The new revolution of bikes will also open the door to a brighter future. So these above-mentioned changes should be celebrated as they will bring a new dawn of possibilities.
