NEW YORK, NY.- After collaborating together on select exhibitions for the past year,
Jane Lombard Gallery formally announced its ongoing representation of LuYang in the United States. The gallery will present a solo booth of LuYangs work derived from their recent film DOKU - the Self (2022) at The Armory Show this September 9-11, 2022. Concurrently, Deutsche Bank will open LuYang: DOKU Experience Center at the PalaisPopulaire on September 10th in conjunction with LuYangs award as Deutsche Banks Artist of the Year 2022. Alongside Jane Lombard Gallerys Booth #326 at The Armory Show in New York, LuYangs work is featured in the exhibition Mirror Image: A Transformation of Chinese Identity at Asia Society, and by Art at a Time Like This in Excelsior, a selection of film screenings by Asian and Asian Diaspora artists at the Quad Cinema on September 6th, curated by Job Piston, organized by and co-presented online with NOWNESS and NOWNESS ASIA.
LuYang (b.1984) is a Shanghai-based multi-media artist who creates fantastical, often morbid visions of death, sexuality (or asexuality), mental illness, and neurological constructs of both real lifeforms and deities. Deeply immersed in the subcultures of anime, video games, and sci-fi, LuYang taps into the enormous influence of Japanese cultural imports on a particular generation in China (those born in the 1980s) as means for provocative imagination that never fails to fascinate, bewilder, and even enrage the audience.
