MARFA, TX.- Ballroom Marfa announced the appointment of its new executive director, and curator Daisy Nam. Nam was previously the curator at Ballroom Marfa, where she organized exhibitions, such as the solo presentation of new works by Donna Huanca ESPEJO QUEMADA, as well as launched an artist-in-residence program Ballroom Session–The Farther Place during the pandemic with Ballroom music curator Sarah Melendez. In her new role as executive director and curator, Nam will continue to work closely with the current team and the Board of Trustees to support the organization’s mission and expand its programming in the lead up to its 20th anniversary in 2023.

Nam joined Ballroom Marfa in 2020 from the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University where she served as the Assistant Director from 2015–2019 organizing exhibitions, performances, and public programs. Prior, she curated and produced seven seasons of talks, screenings, performances, and workshops from 2008–2015 as the assistant director of public programs at the School of the Arts, Columbia University. Curatorial residencies and fellowships include: Marcia Tucker Senior Research Fellow at the New Museum, New York (2020); Bellas Artes, Bataan, Philippines (2020); Surf Point in York, Maine (2019); Gwangju Biennale Foundation, Korea (2018). She holds a master's degree in Curatorial and Critical Studies from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in Art History and Cinema Studies from New York University. She has been a lecturer at RISD, Lesley University, and a visiting critic at Northeastern, SMFA/Tufts, and SVA. She co-edited a publication, Best! Letters from Asian Americans in the Arts with Paper Monument in 2021.

Founded in 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn, Ballroom Marfa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a dynamic, contemporary cultural arts space housed in a converted dancehall that dates to 1927. Ballroom Marfa’s mission is to serve international, national, regional, and local arts communities and support the work of both emerging and recognized artists working across all media: visual arts, film, music, and performance.
