PARIS.- In line with its commitment to biodiversity, the protection of bees and female empowerment, the exhibition, Piquées, documents precious moments of exchange, collaboration, and complicity shared by seven women when they took part in the first iteration of the Women for Bees entrepreneurship program.
With the current honeybee mortality rate standing at 30% annually, the global female beekeeping entrepreneurship program is designed to train new beekeepers and establish beekeeping operations in UNESCO biosphere reserves. The objective of the program is to replace bee stocks around the world in a bid to preserve our planet’s biodiversity.
Delicate embroidery perforates Abramow’s photographs, referencing the meticulous work of the bees and their fragility. The thread also materializes the invisible yet palpable bond that developed between Angelina, Charlotte, Dorothée, Léopoldine, Lorène, Maël and Oriane over the course of the training and the respect that formed between the women and the bees.
Charlotte Abramow says: ‘In a matriarchal society, the bond that unites women is very powerful and omnipresent. It is this strong bond between women, bees and nature that I sought to explore in this photographic series. It also draws a strong parallel between women and bees, both devoted to nature, balance and the renewal of life.’
Angelina Jolie says: ‘These images are typical of Charlotte’s unique eye - her playful and fearless gaze, and her desire to give other women confidence and strength. It was a pleasure to meet and join these distinctive women, in the Women for Bees initiative.‘
