IU Eskenazi Museum of Art announces two new members of senior leadership team and three new hires
Danielle Johnson.

BLOOMINGTON, IN.- The Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University announces the appointment of two new members of its senior leadership team. Danielle Johnson, previously Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Vero Beach Museum of Art, becomes the inaugural Director of Curatorial Affairs. Christine Baldwin, formerly Director of Philanthropy and Planned Giving at Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, has been appointed Director of Development. Both assumed these duties in spring 2022.

Before working as Curator at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Johnson held positions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Saint Louis Art Museum. She received her MA and PhD in art history from New York University and her BA in the history of art and French language and literature from Colgate University. She has also held teaching positions at New York University, the CUNY Graduate Center, and Florida Atlantic University. Johnson will oversee the conservation, curatorial, installation, and registrar departments at the Eskenazi Museum.

Johnson commented, “I’m honored to be joining the Eskenazi Museum of Art and look forward to collaborating with museum staff, students, faculty, and the surrounding community to build on the museum’s long history as a center for teaching, learning, and research. I’m especially eager to explore new ways of presenting the museum’s extraordinarily rich collection and steward projects that engage with contemporary events and encourage inclusivity.”

Prior to her position at Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, Baldwin served as Director of Development at the IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She has also held positions at Sycamore School, Riley Childrens’ Foundation, and Dallman Industrial Corporation. As the Eskenazi Museum’s new Director of Development, Baldwin will take on the role of lead fundraiser, stewarding the current donor base and National Advisory Board and broadening the scope of the museum’s philanthropic efforts. Baldwin received her BA in history from Wheeling Jesuit University and an MA in philanthropic studies from IU’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

Of her new position, Baldwin said, “Thank you for the warm welcome to the Eskenazi Museum of Art community. I’m excited to “grow giving” at a top-tier museum where art and education are prized!”

As members of the museum’s senior leadership team, Johnson and Baldwin will collaborate on advancing the objectives outlined in the five-year strategic plan to implement an authentic and lasting culture of DEAI.

Emma Fulce has been hired as the Eskenazi Museum’s Registrar. Fulce has worked at the museum since 2013, beginning as a graduate assistant in the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and Indigenous Art of the Americas curatorial area and then as an Assistant Registrar. She was part of the team that successfully relocated the permanent collection during the museum’s 2017 renovation, and has recently led efforts to activate the museum’s new study centers. Fulce received her BA in art history from Notre Dame University and her MA in art history from IU. While at Notre Dame, she worked as a student curator and Nazi-era provenance research assistant at the Snite Museum of Art.

The museum’s new Interpretation and Volunteer Experiences Manager is Laura Scheper, who transitioned from her role as Public Experiences Manager, a position she held for seven years. In her new role, Scheper will manage the museum’s volunteer docent corps and facilitate interpretation strategies that encourage deeper connection with works of art. Scheper has a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton.

Genevieve Risner has been hired as the museum’s new Marketing and Communications Coordinator. Previously, she worked at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West as a marketing and audience intern. Risner holds a BA in marketing and international business from Ball State University. In her new role, she will coordinate the Eskenazi Museum’s social media and print marketing campaigns and serve as a public relations liaison with the press and public.

“I am thrilled to welcome Danielle Johnson and Christine Baldwin to our senior leadership team and I look forward to working with them to advance our institutional goals, including the implementation of our strategic plan. Each of them brings valuable museum experience that will enrich our efforts to diversify our collection and programming. I also congratulate Emma Fulce and Laura Scheper on their new roles. Their in-depth knowledge of the Eskenazi Museum and outstanding approach to cross-departmental collaboration will be essential to the museum’s success. And I extend a warm welcome to Genevieve Risner, who will help increase awareness of our great museum and extend our reach to the community,” said David A. Brenneman, Wilma E. Kelley Director of the Eskenazi Museum of Art.
