Ah how weve missed festival season. With all the uncertainty surrounding the safety of large-scale events over the past couple years, festival season is finally a go for 2022. And we could not be more excited. Whether you are new to festivals or a seasoned festival veteran, we are going to go over everything you need to do to prepare for your first music festival of 2022.
Preparing for A Music Festival
One important thing you should do to prepare for your first festival of the season is to make sure you are in good health so you dont have to miss an expensive and often non-refundable event. In the weeks leading up to your festival, you want to make sure that you avoid large crowds and anyone who has tested positive for COVID. You should be eating healthy and doing physical activities that will keep your
cellular health in top shape. This way you can focus on having the time of your life rather than being home sick and having FOMO while your friends are raging.
The Look
Now that thats out of the way, lets get into the fun stuff.
Festival clothing is one of the best parts of preparing for a festival. At a music festival, anything goes and judgment does not exist. Everyone is able to fully express themselves through clothing in a way that is often deemed unacceptable for everyday wear. Depending on the festival, you may need to plan two to three outfits for the different days. If you dont know where to start, heres some of the different vibes and styles that you will see depending on the festival.
· Bohemian: If you are attending a festival like Coachella, which hosts a wide array of artists, then you are going to want to channel your inner bohemian style. At festivals like this you will see a lot of denim, fringe, and metallics.
· Woodstock: Similar to the boho style, some festivals like Bonnaroo transport you back in time to the original music festival: Woodstock. When planning outfits for this vibe, think 60s and 70s style. Florals, braids and eccentric accessories are a must. Whatever you think your parents would have worn when they attended their first festival is going to fit this vibe perfectly.
· Rave: EDM festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival are going to be where you start to see some of the more daring and out there outfit choices. Were talking bright colors, bold statements, and glitter everywhere. You will see a lot more costume style looks, so if you are attending an EDM festival, dont be afraid to go crazy.
Along with clothes, you should also be prepared to do something fun with your hair and makeup. Body glitter, colored hair extensions and lots of hairspray and
dry shampoo are a must. Space buns, intricate braids and flower crowns are some of the most popular hair looks you will see at festivals. So be prepared to go all out!
Accommodation
If youre going out of town for a festival, you will need to think about where you will be staying. Some festivals have campsites set up on the fairgrounds so if thats the case, then you will need to be prepared with camping equipment such as a tent, cooler, food, and water.
If you plan to stay off the property, then you will need to book a place to stay. Make sure you do this ahead of time as some of the larger festivals like Coachella gather extremely large crowds and make it harder to find adequate accommodation last minute. Our favorite means of accommodation for a festival is a large rental house that can fit all our friends and getting ready supplies. After all, applying glitter in a tent is a difficult task so having an actual house to get ready and take pictures in is a huge plus for festivals. If you are someone who attends the same festivals every year, then you may want to look into
passive vacation rental ownership. Having a vacation rental that you invest in near the festivals you like to attend will not only help you save money in accommodation for each year you go, but you will actually be making passive income. That way youll have more money to spend on attending the festivals you love!
What to Pack
Other than the obvious items like your outfits, toiletries, and camping gear if you are staying on the fairgrounds, here are some of the other things that we recommend you pack for your festival.
Your Essentials: These may seem obvious, but people forget these items enough that we feel it needs to be said. Make sure you have your festival ticket, ID card, debit card, and a small amount of cash with you. You also should bring a portable phone charger and obviously your phone as well. It is important that your phone doesnt die not only for pictures, but in case you lose your group.
Sun Essentials: You will be in the sun all festival long and possibly for days, so you want to make sure you are practicing sun safety. Apply a good sweat proof sunblock at the beginning of each day and reapply as needed. Also dont forget some fun cheap sunglasses and wide brimmed hats.
Outdoor Necessities: If you suspect any chance of rain, bring a rain jacket or poncho. Bug spray can also be a lifesaver in the hotter months. It also doesnt hurt to bring an outdoor blanket if you want to take some time to relax in between sets. It can also be helpful to have
hand towels or baby wipes on hand if you need to freshen up during the day.
