The Most Influential Jewish Artists And Designers
Jewish artists tend to use the religion and culture of Judaism to influence their artwork and produce designs. Click here to learn about the most influential artists.

Modern-day Jewish artists are still heavily influenced by the past. They tend to focus on the history of Jewish people and Judaism, but with a modern-day twist. Some of the most influential Jewish artists were born and raised in Israel - most of the Jewish community resides in Israel, and the second-largest community is in the US. Jewish art dates back to biblical times, and in the Book of Exodus, the second commandment says - "You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above or in the earth below."

For that reason, Judaica art doesn't feature sculptures or people – rather, beautiful artwork that reflects the religion in unique ways. Below, we'll look at some of the most influential Jewish artists and designers and the work they've produced.

Avi Nadav
Avi Nadav is a third-generation artist and silversmith, born and raised in Jerusalem. He learned his craft through his father and various other Jewish artists to effortlessly combine different artistic styles and make them into his own unique vision. Avi's specialty is handcrafting methods to create unique pieces that he says are far more spectacular than using machines, as some artists prefer to do. Avid prefers to draw his inspiration from architecture and Jerusalem itself - something that becomes evident if you explore his work on the ISOJ.

Aviv spends his time creating bespoke pieces of work for clients in his factory and warehouse in Jerusalem. He's currently looking to expand his business by adding stunning silver and gold jewelry to his collection of work.

Jordana Klein
Jordana Klein is an Israeli artist with over 30 years of experience painting some of the most beautiful artwork Judaica has ever seen. She's exhibited her work around Israel, the US, South Africa, and Canada - using her powerful influence to inspire artists worldwide.

Jordana opts to use realism and abstract concepts of Judaism to influence her artwork - although some of the pieces she's produced aren't related to Judaism. She chooses not to be limited by genres and existing concepts, and that's why you'll notice that some of her artwork isn't related to Judaism at all. By not paying attention to current trends, Jordana believes every piece of artwork she produces comes from her soul rather than from the influences of other artists or artwork.

Ofek Wertman
Ofek Wertman is an artist that owns a studio in Tel Aviv. He characterizes his work as harnessing the modern-day Israeli lifestyle with its rich ancient history to create colorful, Israeli, pop-art style pieces of work. He prefers to use integrated graphic design and manufacturing processes to complete his works of art, whereas the previously mentioned artists prefer to produce everything handmade.

Still, that doesn't discredit Ofek's work - he is one of the most talented artists in Israel. Ofek's inspiration is computer animation, and he's a professional within the field - he can use technology to produce some of the most detailed designs around.

Every artist is influential. They have the power to bring people together in admiration, reflection, or simply in awe. Jewish art is unique, and the artists above have captured that uniqueness to create some of the best Judaica art the world has ever seen. Which artist is your favorite?
