NEW YORK, NY.- La MaMa Galleria announces a year of exhibitions by women artists, along with curatorial fellowships, presented by the gallery’s new Director C. Finley (artist, curator, and founder of Every Woman Biennial.) The program kicks off on March 3rd with a series of eight solo gallery exhibitions that will further engage the community with free art classes building on the exhibition’s themes and curatorial practice. Providing additional opportunities for 24 artists, a new window gallery, viewable from the street 24 hours a day, will rotate with new art projects every two weeks.

The 2022 program features exhibitions and programs by Liz Liguori, Sarah Anderson, Jessica Mitrani, Nichole Washington, Emily Oliveira, Alex Chowaniec, and Leah Aron with a special vestibule project by Eddy Segal. The artists explore a range of ideas, including: light and space, process and phenomena, matter and materiality, dreams, the divine feminine, grief and healing, resilience and transformation, and more.

Liz Liguori: Light of Hand, initiates the program from March 4 - April 16, curated by Elæ Moss. Tracing the evolution of the artist’s exploration of light in space through her electromagnetogram process, Liguori employs a strategy borne out of her background creating immersive light experiences in New York City nightclubs. Liguori deconstructs the elements of photography to creating unique gelatin silver print, created in the darkroom, capturing the ineffable qualities of light, water, and sound that shape our world. See more information on the exhibition and artist, upcoming talks and programs, and images here.

C. Finley, Founder and Curator of Every Woman Biennial and director of the La MaMa Galleria, since 2021, is known for her elaborate paintings and intense use of color, monumental murals, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and her activism through urban art interventions, including her acclaimed Wallpapered Dumpsters. As the creator of the 2014-2021 Every Woman Biennial she exhibited over 1200 female and non-binary artists in New York, Los Angeles and London. Finley has shown internationally and her work has been featured in the The New York Times, La Repubblica, Dazed, Fast Company, Women’s Wear Daily, LALA, and more.

LaMaMa Galleria, located at 47 Great Jones Street, between Bowery and Lafayette Street, was founded in 1984 as a nonprofit gallery committed to nurturing experimentation in the visual arts. La Galleria encourages an active dialogue between new media, performance, the plastic and visual arts, curatorial projects, and educational initiatives. It serves the East Village community by offering diverse programming to an inter-generational audience, and expanding the parameters of a traditional gallery space. As a non-profit, La Galleria is able to provide artists and curators with unique exhibition opportunities that are largely out of reach in a commercial gallery setting
