PITTSBURGH, PA.- The Andy Warhol Museum has promoted Nicole Dezelon to director of learning and public engagement. Dezelon assumed her new role at The Warhol on January 12, 2022.
"I look forward to furthering The Warhol's position as a responsive, interactive and transformative 21st century museum as we reach new audiences locally, nationally and internationally," said Dezelon, "and I believe our pivot to online learning and digital engagement has established a strong foundation to help us achieve these goals."
Previously The Warhols associate director of learning, Dezelon has spearheaded the museums innovative school partnerships, digital engagement initiatives and professional development programs. Dezelon has authored hundreds of pages of online content, from lesson plans to blog posts, as well as articles and multimedia content, sharing the work of The Warhol worldwide.
Nicole has been a respected and valued colleague at The Warhol for 20 years, said Patrick Moore, director of The Warhol. In her time working at the museum, she has focused on school partnerships, teaching, curriculum development and, most recently, digital content. Nicole and I share a passion for increasing digital production across the museums multiple platforms.
In 2009, Dezelon received a Fulbright-Hays award to conduct a Brazil & US Educational Partnership studying the intersections of art and society. She has led international teaching projects in Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo and Russia introducing thousands to Andy Warhols singular legacy and contemporary artistic practices. In 2019, The Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) named her Outstanding Museum Art Educator.
Dezelon holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education in art education. Following her undergraduate studies, she worked at Leo Grilli Studios in Gubbio, Italy and High Gate Pottery in London before returning to the United States to take on a high school teaching position. As a practicing ceramic artist, Dezelon has taught at The Manchester Craftsmens Guild in Pittsburgh and images of her clay work appear in the Lark Books publications: 500 Prints on Clay, Alternative Kilns and Firing Techniques and Image Transfer on Clay.
In addition to her work at The Warhol, Dezelon is an adjunct professor at Carlow University, Slippery Rock University and St. Josephs College of Maine.
