LONDON.- PEER announced that it has appointed Ellen Greig as its new Director. Currently Senior Curator at Londons Chisenhale Gallery, Ellen replaces PEERs previous Director Ingrid Swenson who stepped down at the end of 2021. This appointment marks the beginning of a new direction for PEER with a focus on collaboration and sustainability.
Ellen is a curator and writer based in London. Informed by a background in collective practice Ellens research interests include examining the role that art and culture play in shaping and challenging historic narratives and social and political contexts. She joined Chisenhale Gallery in 2016, where she has commissioned and produced long-term projects with numerous artists. Previously, she has held curatorial positions at Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea, Liverpool Biennial, and LUX Artists Moving Image, London. She is an artistic advisor for the 59th International Art Exhibition of Venice Biennale (2022), curated by Cecilia Alemani, and is a Trustee at The Old Waterworks, Westcliff-on-Sea.
Of her new role at PEER, Ellen said, "I am really happy to be joining PEERs team, and to work closely with the board, the artists and the local communities that inform PEERs programme. At a time when many are questioning the ways in which art is produced, and who it is for, I look forward to continuing to build PEERs legacy as a dynamic and generous neighbourhood space for art and culture."
Isabelle Nowak, Chair of PEERs Trustees said, "We are thrilled that Ellen Greig has agreed to lead PEER as it embarks on its next chapter. Building on PEERs ethos of offering world-class art to the communities it is deeply embedded in, we are confident that she will expand PEERs reach further and grow its relevance as a trailblazer for a collaborative, inclusive and sustainable arts organisation."
Ellen will take up her new role in March.
