BERLIN.- Andrea Zaumseil‘s works can be found in both public spaces as well as in renowned collections like Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf and Kunsthalle Mannheim. She was awarded the acclaimed Hans-Thoma-Prize from the State of BadenWürttemberg as early as in 2015. Now her amazing art is on display in the exhibition “Über Flug“ at Ketterer Kunst in Berlin as of December 18.

Those who have seen Andrea Zaumseil‘s work won‘t forget it all to soon. The artist possesses great mastery in creating haunting works characterized by both filigree and pictorial properties. The elements are her motifs, just as landscapes and interiors, as well as bodies of all types, as she has a background in sculpting. The exhibition at Ketterer Kunst shines a light on the themes of forest and birds.

Indeed, the range of motifs and impressions of the works on display covers Earth and heaven, reaches deep down from the surface and offers both organic associations and fleeting moments.

Raised with a deep love of nature on Lake Constance, the artist captivates the observer with her dramatic and meditative creations that appear to be in constant flow. Through their immediacy her painting-like drawings put a spell on their observers, leaving them astonished and deeply touched.

“I am very happy about the opportunity to show her works here in our premesis,“ says Dr. Simone Wiechers, head of the Berlin branch of Ketterer Kunst. “In a most wonderful way her works express the ancient and legendary dream of flying, freedom and a life in harmony with nature. They are particularly captivating for their dynamics, elegance and poignancy.

Andrea Zaumseil is a versatile visual arts poet. After she had completed her studies of German and history at the Constance University in the late 1970s, she studied sculpting at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. Since 2003 she holds a teaching post for (metal) sculpting at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle.

In her œuvre she unites heavy, monumental steel sculptures and tender pastel chalk drawings from the borderlands with painting and photography. Her creations are as tender and poetic as they are dense and voluminous. They testify to her examination of not only a vast range of issues, but also of diverse materials and techniques. At the moment she is particularly involved with drawing:

“I like the immediacy, the reduction of means and its unlimited possibilities, as well as the situation in which I am all alone with pen and paper“, says the artist.

On occasion of the opening of the exhibition “Andrea Zaumseil – Über Flug“, Dr. Simone Wiechers, curator and head of the Ketterer Kunst branch in Berlin, will hold the keynote address in the artist‘s presence on December 17 at 7 p. m.

In context of the exhibition, an artist talk between Andrea Zaumseil and Dr. Brigitte Reinhardt, former director of Museum Ulm, is scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2022 at 6 p. m.
