Roland Auctions NY December 4th auction featuring items from the estate of well-known Manhattan gallerist Eleanor Ettinger, whose eponymous West 57th Street gallery opened in 1975 and became a fixture in the New York art world, was a stunning Antonio Lopez mixed media on paper of supermodel Jerry Hall in a pink and black Oscar de la Renta dress with bouquet, signed lower middle, matted on board, accompanied by book "Antonio's Girls" with text by Christopher Hemphill, Congreve Publishing, NYC, 1982. Provenance: From the Estate of NYC Art Dealer and Gallerist Eleanor Ettinger, owner of The Eleanor Ettinger Gallery. [Art: 22" H x 30" W; Frame: 31" H x 39" W]. The piece sold for $10,625 with multiple bidders competing. Antonio Lopezs fashion illustrations helped define fashion in the 1970s and 1980s with his bold, dynamic images.
Also in the more contemporary arena was a Van Cleef & Arpels "Alhambra" Necklace , with a 1985 Authenticity Certificate, VC&A 20-motif necklace, rare rock crystal and 18K gold, which sold for $18,750 and an Art Deco-Style Contemporary "Duke" Bar by Ralph Lauren, with removable drinks tray. [48" H x 56" W x 19 1/2" D], selling for $16,250, and a Vintage Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair , 1958, upholstered in Gray Kvadrat Pebble upholstery. [42" H x 34" W x 29" D], selling $1,875.
In the art forum, Roland feaured an Emilio Grau-Sala: Mother & Child Painting - Colorful oil on canvas depiction of a mother and daughter seated with a birdcage in the background, signed lower right "Grau Sala" and again on verso "Grau Sala / Paris / 1967".[Sight: 21 18" H x 17 3/4" W; Frame: 29" H x 26" W], which sold for $8,750, an Emilio Grau-Sala: Girl in Chair Painting, Oil on canvas Modernist composition depicting a girl turned backwards on a chair resting her chin on her arms, signed lower right "Grau Sala" and again on verso "Grau Sala / Paris / 1956". [Sight: 19 1/4" H x 25 1/8" W; Frame: 27" H x 33" W], which Sold for $8,125 and a Bronze sculpture by Richard McDonald (American, b. 1946) of a muscular male figure poised atop an orb, titled "Sleep, Marcel, Sleep", on a marble stand, signed and numbered 95/175. In more traditional areas, Roland offered a fine Italian Rococo Period Bombe Commode, Fruitwood, kingwood and parquetry inlaid bombe commode, with fine bronze mounts, Naples, circa 1760. [37" H x 34 1/2" W x 25 3/4" D], selling for $4,375, a Biedermeier three-drawer walnut commode, [37" H x 32" W x 15" D], which sold for $3,750, a Chinese Jade carved cup on stand, Cup with two very detailed and open work carved handles. [1 1/2" H x 5" W], which sold for $3,537 and a Meissen Porcelain & Dore Centerpiece Bowl, ornate Rococo Revival centerpiece bowl with oblong Meissen porcelain bowl bearing floral decoration, featuring bronze dore supports with Bacchus figures and double dragon handles. [12 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W x 8 5/8" D], which sold $3,125.
