WAILUKU, HAWAII.- Hawaiian painter and muralist Tadashi Sato, 82, died. Tadashi Sato was one of Hawaii’s most respected artists. In a career that spanned over 50 years, Sato became known for his spare, subtle abstract compositions. He was also recognized for works with imagery drawn from the natural world around him, especially the tide pools and submerged rocks of the coastlines where he fished near his home in Lahaina on the island of Maui. Always, Sato painted with signature delicate, crosshatched brushstrokes.
