NEW YORK.- Lisa Phillips, Henri Luce III Director of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, announced today the appointment of Richard Flood to the position of Chief Curator. Richard will begin his tenure at the New Museum this September. As Chief Curator, he will oversee all programming at the museum in conjunction with the Director.
Richard comes to the New Museum from the Walker Art Center, where he has been Chief Curator for eleven years. He has organized a number of well-received exhibitions including Brilliant!: New Art from London, Zero to Infinity: Arte Povera 1962-1972, Robert Gober: Sculpture + Drawing, and the works of Sigmar Polke, among others. Richard previously served as a Curator at P.S.1, was Director of Barbara Gladstone Gallery, and held the post of Managing Editor of Artforum Magazine.
A highly respected leader in the museum community, Richard brings tremendous experience and skills to the New Museum. He will be a great asset to the curatorial team during a period of dynamic institutional growth and change as the Museum begins to construct its new building on the Bowery.
