To glue different brands of polystyrene foam can be used bituminous mastics or cement-based adhesive compositions, polyurethane foam. The basis of the adhesive should not include gasoline, esters, acetone and other organic compounds - they damage it, literally dissolving it and leaving holes in the places of application. In addition, the choice of adhesive for foam plastic depends on what exactly is to be insulated: the floor of the building, its walls or ceiling.
In new buildings of low storeys is recommended to design hollow walls and lay the polystyrene foam inside them - will save on gluing and reinforcing elements. Work on the device heat insulation with extruded polystyrene foam should be carried out in dry weather at an ambient temperature not below +5 ° C. The only exception is the polyurethane foam.
In the case of insulating the walls or floor of the building, the best choice would be a
glue for styrofoam. Gluing polystyrene boards begins at the bottom with laying in 1 row. Then they are attached with a T-shaped tie of the joint, close to each other and to the boards of the neighboring row. It is unacceptable to reassemble, as well as to change the position of the boards after 5 minutes after installation.
Boards of polystyrene foam are fixed with dowels. For use in brick or concrete walls, dowels with the distance part of 60 mm, for walls of cellular concrete and perforated bricks - 90 mm.
The amount per sheet is 4-6 pieces, in the corners of the building up to 8 pieces. The reinforcing mesh is fixed in tension to the adhesive layer, and an overlap of 10 cm is made at the joints of the mesh pieces. After the first layer has hardened, the second one is applied. The total thickness of reinforcement should be at least 3 mm. Corner areas are protected from damage by aluminum corners. The final plaster layer is applied after 3 days after reinforcement.
Adhesive compositions used
The basis of bituminous mastic - unified bitumen, plasticizers and solvents. When applied solidly - a good waterproofing agent, resistant to freezing. In the case of insulation of the foundation of the building - it is objectively the best choice of adhesive material. But the bonding surface requires drying, leveling and sanding. Also, no protruding parts, clumps of dirt, rust, wet and greasy spots are allowed on the outside of the foundation. Pre-priming improves the quality of the work. The setting period of adhesive bituminous mastic is at least 30 minutes, so shoring will be required. Cement-adhesive compositions are used as a reinforcing layer.
