BRUSSELS.- Almine Rech announced the representation of Haley Josephs in Europe, the United Kingdom, and China.
Almine Rech will host the artist's inaugural solo exhibition featuring new paintings in Almine Rech Brussels from September 9 to October 9, 2021.
Recently, Haley Josephs was featured in a group presentation at Almine Rech New York, Salon de Peinture, and in the group show Different Strokes, curated by artist Marcus Jahmal which took place at Almine Rech London. Her paintings were also presented in several group shows organized by the gallery in 2020, notably I Want to Eat the Sunset. We're Talking About the Cosmos, Even. And Love, I Guess at Almine Rech New York.
Drawing inspiration from notions of transformation, mortality, and femininity, Haley Josephs (American, b. 1987) paints solitary figures in fantastical yet foreboding environments that transcend time and space. A recurring character within Josephs' work is the artist's late sister, who is often evoked in bold, almost daring, portraits that amalgamate intimate and personal narratives of the artist with the universal human condition. Her enigmatic paintings are colorful and whimsical yet also present a dark twist. An underlying sense of power and balance pervades her works, hinting a moment of liberation from ones ostensibly everlasting psychological conflicts.
Josephs has exhibited internationally since 2013, including at the Cleveland Institute of Art and she was selected to complete an artist-in-residency at Fountainhead Residency, Miami, FL in 2020. Her work is in the collection of the X Museum, Beijing.
Haley Josephs currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
