MADRID, SPAIN.-Guillermo Solana was named new director of the Thyssen Museum at the board meeting that took place this week. Nine out of the twelve board members attended the meeting to name the new director. Board members architect Rafael Moreno, President of Caja Madrid Miguel Blesa and Secretary of Budget and Income Miguel Ángel Fernández Ordoñez were not able to attend this meeting. There had been rumors that Francesca de Habsburgo, daughter of baron Thyssen and museum board member, wanted a foreign director. But the board decision was unanimously in favor of Guillermo Solana. Carmen Calvo stated that they decided to hold another board meeting in June or July to defined the guidelines that Solana will follow as new director.
