Las Vegas Casinos Pledge To Pay Artists For Murals

A casino company that’s currently constructing a 4.3 billion dollar resort on the Las Vegas Strip and has agreed to pay local artists to create some murals for its site. At first, the Resorts World Las Vegas wanted artists to volunteer to do the work but has now decided to pay the artists a fee for their talents.

Over the past few months we’ve had to make do with playing UK online and mobile casinos due to the pandemic. However, we can now look towards potentially travelling again this year (subject to restrictions) and seeing the artworks for ourselves.

Scott Sibella, The President of Resorts World Las Vegas, said that the company did not mean to cause any offence when they originally announced the program.

"We respect and are proud of our arts community," Sibella said in a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Sibella said that the mural program is for "back of house" hallways where employees will be and is not intended for guests to see.

"We wanted to create a unique opportunity for anyone that has a passion for art to showcase their work with our team members," he told the newspaper.

The company had said earlier that the artists will be receiving free supplies for the project and would be invited to the resort's grand opening. The resort has planned to provide professional photography and video content that artists can use in their portfolios.

When the programme was announced, and people found out that the artists would not be paid for their work, it caused a social media uproar.

The 12 chosen artists will now be paid; however, the amount has not been specified. There are also plans for the resort to pay artists to create work that guests will see.

The has been targeted to open in the summer of 2021, with the resort being around 75% complete at the time of writing.

Stardust Memories

Resorts World Las Vegas is being built on the site of the former Stardust hotel-casino on the northwest corner of Las Vegas, near Circus Circus.

The Stardust became very famous to a wider audience in the book released in 1995 called Love and Honor in Las Vegas, written by New York-based crime reporter Nicholas Pileggi.

Pileggi's book is about a love triangle that involves Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, his wife, Geri and mobster Anthony Spilotro. Rosenthal oversaw the Stardust and other resorts across the strip for Midwestern crime families.

The book was also the basis for the 1995 Martin Scorsese movie Casino, which starred Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, and Joe Pesci. The book's author Pileggi co-wrote the script with Scorsese.

The characters' real names and the resort's name were used in the book but not in the movie for legal reasons.
