CHICAGO, IL.- Hindmans spring Fine Timepieces and Fine and Important Jewelry auctions will be presented on May 17 and 18, and will showcase stunning antique keepsakes and modern pieces by designers including Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari, Hemmerle, Evelyn Clothier, Tony Duquette, and Nicholas Varney, and wristwatches by Longines, Breitling, Omega, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Patek Philippe. The timepieces auction will include a variety of pocket watches, ladies dress watches by Cartier and Chopard as well as mens sports watches and collectible timepieces. The jewelry auction will feature property from a private collection with several floral plique-á-jour enamel and gemstone brooches by Evelyn Clothier.
Notable lots in the Timepieces auction (May 17) include a limited-edition 'Quantieme Perpetuel Automatique' wristwatch (lot 60; estimate: $8,000-12,000) and a piquet, sapphire and diamond wristwatch (lot 19; estimate: $6,000-8,000), both by Audemars Piguet. Patek Philippes Ref. 5110R-001 'Worldtime' wristwatch (lot 82; estimate: $15,000- $25,000) and Ref. 5196 'Calatrava' wristwatch (lot 80; estimate: $10,000-15,000) are two other exceptional items. A limited-edition Jaeger-LeCoultre, 'Reverso' chronograph wristwatch (lot 70; estimate: $8,000-12,000) is another stunning design.
Outstanding items in the Fine and Important Jewelry auction (May 18) include an exceptional Hemmerle diamond dress set with two round brilliant diamonds weighing approximately 6.25 carats (lot 162; estimate: $70,000-$90,000). An important Burmese ruby and diamond ring (lot 53; estimate: $30,000-50,000), an emerald and diamond ring (lot 159; estimate: $50,000-70,000), and a Tiffany & Co., Schlumberger, grossularite garnet and diamond ring (lot 126; estimate: $15,000-25,000) are also highlights. Another dazzling lot from Tiffany & Co. is a Kashmir sapphire and diamond stickpin (lot 18; estimate: $35,000-55,000).
The auction features exquisite brooches that are the perfect sophisticated accessories for spring including an art deco, aquamarine, and diamond clip brooch by Cartier (lot 40; estimate: $7,000-9,000). Impressive brooches by Evelyn Clothier include her diamond en tremblant brooch (lot 52; estimate: $4,000-6,000) and her diamond, ruby, and emerald flower brooch (lot 170; estimate: $5,000-7,000). A diamond, sapphire, and enamel orchid brooch (lot 179; estimate: $3,000-5,000) and a diamond, ruby, and plique-à-jour enamel flower brooch (lot 169; estimate: $4,000-6,000) are other elegant examples by Clothier. Earring lots are also among the highlights, including Bvlgari, amethyst, pink tourmaline, and diamond Divas' Dream earclips (lot 108; estimate: $5,000-7,000).
A spectacular Tony Duquette opal, rock crystal, and moonstone necklace is another standout item (lot 134; estimate: $12,000-18,000). Hindman recently presented a stunning moonstone and opal pendant/brooch and a multigem and coral brooch by Tony Duquette in its February Palm Beach Fine Jewelry auction, both of which exceeded expectations and were among the top 10 lots sold.
