Crystal Horse Gallops Back To Belsay |

LONDON, UK.-One of the most eye-catching works of art to ever go on display in the region has once again taken up residence in the North East. The stunning crystal horse chandelier – created by top UK fashion designer, Stella McCartney and entitled ‘Lucky Spot’ – took the North East by storm last summer when it featured in English Heritage’s hugely successful Fashion at Belsay (FAB) exhibition.
Comprising over 8,000 individually crafted Swarovski crystal spheres, Stella’s horse previously hung from the rafters of Northumberland’s magnificent Belsay Castle. However, for its return to Belsay, the must-see work of art has been positioned in the grand Pillar Hall of the neo-classical mansion where it will remain in situe until 30 September.
Of the reinstallation, Jeremy Reed, visitor operations director for English Heritage North East, said: “Stella McCartney’s crystal horse is a magnificent work of art and as such we are both delighted and honoured to welcome it back to Belsay for a second season.
“The unique chandelier attracted thousands of visitors during our Fashion at Belsay exhibition last year and we hope for a similar response following its return. As a result, we decided to hang it in the Pillar Hall, which will provide increased accessibility for the public.”
Stella McCartney added: “I loved the idea of creating something sharp with a modern edge in such a historic setting. The powerful energy of the horse design is balanced by the delicacy of the crystal rain.”
For those that missed last year’s Fashion at Belsay exhibition, Judith King, visual arts consultant for English Heritage will re-live the stunning installations – along with Belsay’s two previous art exhibitions – during a one-off event entitled ‘Contemporary Art at Belsay Hall’ on Sunday 5 June, 4-5pm.
Places for the event are limited and booking is essential. Admission: Adult £5.30, Concession £4.00, Child £2.70, Family £13.30 and FREE to all English Heritage members.
