FRANKFURT, GERMANY.- From April 29 to May 2, art enthusiasts and collectors are in for a real treat. Art Frankfurt will again be showing what the art market has to offer in spring 2005. 155 participants will present works from more than 2000 international and German artists. They include galleries from Switzerland (6), Austria (5), Spain (5), the UK (5), the Netherlands (3), and France, Hungary, Turkey, Italy and the Czech Republic (1 each). Many of the international participants use Art Frankfurt as a gateway to the German art market, which is known for its inquisitive and cosmopolitan collectors.

Marianne El Hariri, Director of Art Frankfurt, explains the orientation and concept of the fair: “Art Frankfurt supports numerous special exhibitions and projects. This makes it more than a mere art market. Rightly so, since art is more than JUST goods for trade.” Traditionally a special focus of the Frankfurt art fair is on young artists. Collectors at Art Frankfurt not only have the opportunity to pick up on new trends; they can also seek out talented young artists. Visitors intent on buying will face an overwhelming selection. Roy Lichtenstein’s American pop art and works from Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol will be available, as are pieces from Gerhard Richter, Markus Lüpertz, Sigmar Polke and Georg Baselitz.

Art Frankfurt 2005 has again been structured into three separate exhibition sections: Modern in Hall 1.2 explores artistic productions from the recent past and their contemporary development and interpretation. Avantgarde in Hall 1.1 is all about the present. In addition to artists already established in the international market, members of the latest generation of artists are strongly featured here. The Edition section, also located in Hall 1.1, is a treasure trove of multiples, artists’ books, and photo and video editions.

The three exhibition sections are supplemented by a number of special sponsored stands. Of particular interest for collectors and "explorers" is the New & Upcoming division, where gallery owners showcase the next generation of artists who have not had exposure at art fairs up to now. The Projects division features installations and media works and One Artist Shows are what the name suggests - the work of one person only.
