MONACO.- Chaired by HRH The Princess of Hanover, the board of directors of the Prince Pierre Foundation announced the appointment of Cristiano Raimondi as the new artistic director of the International Prize for Contemporary Art (PIAC). He is henceforth responsible for the coordination of one of the most prestigious prizes in the contemporary art world.

Cristiano Raimondi is an exhibition curator and designer. Dedicated to leading collaborations between artists, curators, collectors and museum institutions, he unites contemporary creation at the intersection of history, design, fashion, the humanities and social sciences.

His ambition is shaped by the desire to breathe energy and a new dynamic into the PIAC while preserving the continuity of its heritage and the artistic vision that has inspired it since its creation. Raimondi’s wish is that “the next prize is awarded to an artist or collective with an approach that is sensitive to issues such as environmental sustainability, human rights, minorities, and the ecological sciences”.

With this in mind, Cristiano Raimondi has surrounded himself with a team of international experts from the art world to form the Prince Pierre Foundation’s new Artistic Council:

- Barbara CASAVECCHIA, curator, writer
- Manuel CIRAUQUI, curator, writer
- Petrit HALILAJ, artist
- Claire HOFFMANN, art historian, curator
- Chus MARTÍNEZ, curator, art historian, writer
- Mouna MEKOUAR, curator, art critic
- Christodoulos PANAYIOTOU, artist

First awarded in 1965, the PIAC rewards a recent work proposed every three years by the Artistic Council, which is chaired by HRH The Princess of Hanover with Marie-Claude Beaud as vice-president. The winner of this prize is awarded the sum of €75,000.

Previous finalists include Arthur Jafa, who received the award in 2019 for his work Love is the Message, The Message is Death (2016), as well as Rosa Barba, Dora García, Guido van der Werve, Didier Marcel, Candice Breitz, and Carlos Garaicoa.
