Four Awesome Casino Heist Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

Don’t we all love a good heist movie, particularly the casino type. There’s something mysterious and incredibly seductive about the plot twists, action and excitement of betting and gambling. Therefore, it stands to reason that film and television surrounding this subject would also be quite enticing.

It would also explain why every year, there are a number of new ones, which instantly shoot to popularity. Furthermore, betting fans can’t get enough of playing either. Which explains why sites like Jackpot City NZ increase in membership every minute.

Casino Movies Changed with Casinos

The casinos of the past were very different from modern ones. Today, you can even hop on your laptop, phone or tablet whenever you fancy a game of blackjack, poker or slots. Whereas in the past, visiting a casino was a grand affair that you get all dolled up for.

Moreover, they existed in large, gorgeous building full of glamour and glitz. Making them the ultimate setting for a heist! Take a look at your favorite streaming service and enjoy some classic casino heist movies that you probably haven’t seen or heard of before.

The Good Thief - 2002

In the Good Thief tells the story of an aging gambling on the losing streak of his life. However, instead of accepting his losses and moving on, he decides to rob the famous Monte Carlo casino instead. Based on a 1955 French film by the name of Bob Le Flambeur.

Nick Nolte plays the lead, Bob. A down and out heroin addict. The plotline is gritty at times but the wit and locations will blow you away.

Hollow Triumph - 1948

Hollow Triumph is the tale of John Muller, a recent convict who goes on to become the genius behind an incredible casino heist. However, he hasn’t chosen an old legitimate establishment to scam. He goes after an incredibly profitable underground casino owned and operated by the mob. A bold choice, but will fortune favor him?

Bob Le Flambeur - 1956

Bob le Flambeur or “Bob the Gambler” is a original French casino heist The Good Thief is based on. Most would refer to it as a film noir, because of the handhelds and other camer work. The French New Wave classic is popular among afficionados looking for something different.

The title character Bob is an ex-bank robber who decides to target the casino he is working at as a croupier. He enlists the help of a friend to crack the safe and steal the cash at the time when it’s the fullest with up to 800 million.

Rounders - 1998

Rounders stars Matt Damon as a New York law student who becomes entangled in poker. He ends up losing tons of money to a mobster, Teddy. Now he’s destitute, unable to make ends meet while dealing with the pressure to pass the bar exam.

Even when he ends up escaping the poker life, debts and certain things draw him back in. Such as a friend owing a mobster a large sum which he must win in order to save his life.

Conclusion

There are plenty more examples of fantastic movies that cover real life gambling action. As much as they intend to stick to the true facts, there’s always a bit of fiction to simplify or spice things up.

Likewise, you can explore certain online casinos for yourself and get in on some of that action yourself. Hopefully you’ll have a much easier time than some of the characters in your favorite movies.
