Korzen had his first art exhibition in Copenhagen when he was 20 and has been painting regularly since then.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Temporal States, an exhibition of collages and paintings by filmmaker Benni Korzen opened at the online gallery on January 1, 2021.

In the essay accompanying the exhibition, Los Angeles gallerist and art critic Mat Gleason states, “The form and texture crystalize temporal states, giving Korzen’s work an effervescent quality, like a millisecond of time captured in amber and on display unchanged for a billion years.”

Korzen, celebrated for his Academy Award winning production of the 1988 Best Foreign Film Oscar winner Babette’s Feast, grew up in Copenhagen. In 1964 he moved to New York and now lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Annie Korzen, where he continues to paint and work on films.

Korzen had his first art exhibition in Copenhagen when he was 20 and has been painting regularly since then. His move to creating collages is recent and enjoys the big advantage of getting an immediate result, unlike the slower aspect of painting and the even slower pace of producing a motion picture.

Korzen states, “The benefit for me when doing the collages is the fact that I can, within two minutes, reshape or change it radically. When I paint it’ll take me 20 minutes to do the same. Therefore, if my mind is fertile and I can think fast, then this is a very ideal way to allow those ideas to come together fast.”

onodream Gallery was opened online in July 2020 by artist Louis Jacinto. The gallery gives each artist a solo show for 3 months. To keep interest ongoing for each exhibition, 10 of the artist’s artworks open the show, with 10 additional works added during the second month and the final 10 during the third month. An exhibition catalog is also published during the third month of the exhibition.

“I was sad to read that so many galleries would not survive the economic shutdown due to the pandemic,” said Jacinto, “so I decided to open my own gallery online. I’m not going to show my own work, but rather promote artists who I know, whose work I admire and who have not received more recognition I think they deserve.”

The Bennie Korzen exhibition is the gallery’s third show since opening, and runs through March 31, 2021.
