HyperViolence: A Culmination of 2020 Tension

Franky Aguilar, also known as Frankynines is a multiple disciplinary artist and creative director based in Las Vegas. With a catalog of work spanning from digital art and interactive design to hand-painted works and other technical pursuits, Franky is an eclectic jack of all trades artist. You may have seen his work in Forbes or maybe you noticed his name on some viral apps that collaborated with celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Steve Aoki. His newest project, HyperViolence was released December 18, 2020, and it is the fitting culmination of this unprecedented year.

While working on a different project with TikTok last summer, protests erupted directly outside of his studio. Teargas filled the streets while Franky worried about the future of his space, particularly his windows. There was nothing he could do but eat some pizza and watch the protest accelerate while cops barricaded his doors. This unrest, on top of other pandemic tensions, were the seeds that grew into HyperViolence.

“I wanted to drop a body of work that both displayed the iconography of events and kept it sexy, but with a twist.” - Franky Aguilar

Formed during a year of unprecedented challenges, HyperViolence captures this new reality. Franky sees this project as a “personal perspective on current events and tensions in the world.” With vibrant red and blue colors splashed across a black background, Franky depicts the uncomfortable changes that society has endured. From his eye-catching Non Fungible Tokens to paintings and a new line of apparel, HyperViolence embodies the essence of 2020 through his lived experiences during this chaotic year.
