The Prado Museum posts its first Official Guide for Android and iOS smartphones
Prado Guide App.

MADRID.- The Prado Museum and Samsung are taking a major step in their purpose of bringing art closer to society through the responsible use of technology, with the launch of the Prado Guide app. Aimed at all art history enthusiasts and at those who want to prepare their visit or spend more time studying the details of their favourite works, this app makes 400 Prado works available to the user to enjoy from anywhere and at any time.

“This application aims to become a tool both for uninitiated visitors and specialists and bring the Museum closer to an increasingly numerous audience interested in obtaining clear and accurate information on the works contained within. We hope that this guide accompanies and enlightens those who have the pleasure of touring the galleries, and that it brings the collection closer to those who are unable to”, states Miguel Falomir, Director of the Prado National Museum.

This app version, the first museum guide available for smartphones, allows the institution to be opened to millions of users around the world. In its printed version, published for the first time in 2008, is the most widely distributed book of the Museum, with more than 600,000 copies sold in 10 languages.

Categorised by school and author, the app includes more than 400 works commented by the Museum’s leading specialists, who provide information to users about the story told in each work, the artistic personality of the author and its importance in the collection as a whole, as well as other matters of historical and artistic interest, with updated information in this 2020 edition. In addition, all the works include a technical sheet and their images are available for download in high definition.

Browsing is simple and intuitive and the app includes a general presentation, a history of the Museum and chapters with introductions that divide each collection, and group the works around an artist, genre, period and so on.

This app has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Samsung, as the Museum’s technology partner. This is the Prado’s second official app, following “The Dauphin’s Treasure”, and joins the recent launch of works available from the Prado Museum in the “S Pen Academy” app, resulting from the collaboration between both institutions. As a novelty, exclusively and until 21 November, users of compatible Samsung devices will be able to download the full content of the application free of charge.

“Our commitment to society involves facilitating access to culture and art through the use of the latest technologies. The Prado Guide app will enable users from all over the world to get closer to our cultural heritage in favour of our key commitment to support the union between culture and technology,” said Alfonso Fernández, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations of Samsung Spain.
