DALLAS, TX.- Across the spectrum of highlights on offer in
Heritage Auctions' Fine Furniture & Decorative Arts Auction this Friday is a selection of rare Aubusson tapestries an ideal compliment to the five special sessions in the sale.
Rarities from three important private collections, as well as themed sessions entitled "The Holiday Table" and "The Holiday Gift" comprise the sale, which will be held in real time on HA.com, LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com.
Leading the auction's selection of fine furniture is a stunning, 19th century Napoleon III Gilt Bronze Mounted Sèvres-Style Porcelain Side Table (est. $15,000-25,000) from the Dallas collection of R. Douglas Houser. The 60-piece collection presents a François Linke Gilt Bronze Mounted Mahogany Bureau Plat (est. $12,000-18,000) and a gorgeous 62-piece St. Louis Thistle Pattern Glass Stemware Service (est. $10,000-15,000.
The auction's selection of six, rare Aubusson tapestries, hand-selected to compliment the furniture and decorative arts on offer. The Aubusson tapestry has a rich and storied history. Recognized for their beauty and artistry, Aubusson tapestries are featured in the collections of museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the V&A Museum in London, and of course the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie Aubusson in Aubusson, France.
Heritage is fortunate to have several superb examples in this Friday's auction. From the Houser collection, several monumental Aubusson carpets are available, ranging from a custom-designed 20th century example to earlier examples. From the Dr. David Mehler collection, an exquisite mid-18th century Aubusson tapestry representing a bird hunting scene will be another jewel in the auction, having been featured in a Christie's Paris auction in 2017. Other highlights include an Aubusson upholstered bench and a Napoleon III Aubusson carpet.
The tapestries and carpets pair perfectly with a French François Linke Gilt Bronze Mounted Mahogany Bureau Plat (est. $12,000-18,000) as well as a pair of monumental Neoclassical-Style Partial Gilt Bronze Seven-Light Candelabra (est. $10,000-15,000).
Also on offer is a stunning pair of Meissen Allegorical Porcelain Figures with Gilt Bronze and Porcelain Candelabra Mounts, depicting Africa and America (est. $10,000-15,000). From the Houser collection, a Steinway & Sons Model M Grand Piano with Louis XV-Style Case and Stool showcases Houser's eye for excellence (est. $7,000-$10,000).
