Choosing the Right Fabric Upholstery this Fall Season

The fall season is fast approaching and most of us are now considering a makeover for our home décor to fit the season. Like ourselves, we dress up accordingly as the season changes. As for our home décor, we also might want to change its design to fit the season; not just for the looks but also for its functionality. This season also requires a little bit of planning since this transition is so drastic from warm to a colder climate. Most of us will be spending more time indoors rather than outdoors like during summers so it will be wise to have our home décor be updated.

One of the most important things to consider upon redecorating your home is the fabric being used for your furnishing’s upholstery. There are many fabrics out in the market that you might want to take a look into. These fabrics are very well proven to make your autumn season pleasant and very comfortable.

Here are some of the fabrics that you need to consider when reupholstering your furniture this upcoming season.

Wool – This is a textile fibre type fabric that is obtained from sheep and other animals like goats, mush oxen, bison and rabbits. In other words, these are what we call organic fabrics. This material is known for its durability and elasticity. It is more elastic than any other fabrics. No matter how you twist, crush, or stretch it somehow it will spring back to its natural form.

They can also be dyed effectively not just in the surface but the dye becomes the fibre itself.

Wool fabrics are also very comfortable and breathable than any other fabrics particularly the synthetic types. Water-resistant, dirt-resistant and they are not flammable.

Though wool is a great choice for your upholstery during the cold season, it needs to be cleaned professionally. One could not just wash this fabric in the washing machine. For long-lasting beauty, the user should follow the maintenance direction for this particular fabric.

Velvet Fabrics - Velvet itself is a type of woven tufted fabric; this means it is composed of threads that were cut and distributed evenly.

This material is very comfortable and very durable. Just by observing the fabric itself, no one can deny that it is very comfortable to sit on if upholstered to a chair or sofa. This would be one of the best choices for upholstering your furnishing during the cold season.

For velvet fabric maintenance, it can be cleaned by modern-day dry cleaning methods. One can also use just the vacuum cleaner regularly to preserve the fabric’s colour and shine over the years.

It is also perfect if you have pets at home since their hair will only stay on top of the fabrics and can be easily cleaned by a vacuum cleaner.

Though velvet fabrics are a bit costly, you might want to consider the synthetic version of this material as they are more affordable than the natural ones.

Chenille Fabrics – This is the most versatile fabric which is best for your upholstery needs in any season. It is heavier than velvets thus making it more durable and more comfortable. One can use this fabric for many applications such as upholstering your sofas, dining chairs, barstools, comforters, pillows, headboards and even bedding.

This type of fabric also is known for being dazzling. Though the fibres used in making chenille are not inherently shiny, it catches the light at the right angles due to the direction of the piles of fibres. This effect can make this type of fabric seem to dazzle.

As for maintaining chenille fabrics, it should be dry-cleaned yet hand-wash is also possible for this type of material thus making it more manageable than any other counterparts.

Chenille fabrics are not only for upholstering. You can also make use of this fabric for your curtains as it has beautiful drapes making it more elegant looking than any other fabrics.

Mentioning those top fabrics that are ideal for your autumn home décor, you also need to make necessary changes to your fabric colours.

For the cold season, you should consider choosing darker colours for your fabrics. Darker shades should keep you warm indoors during the season. Incorporate also darker schemes to your overall home décor and surely this season is something you will look forward to in every year.
