The twenty-second edition of the Art Rotterdam
international art fair will be held from Thursday 4 February to Sunday 7 February 2021. The location is once again the iconic Van Nelle factory in Rotterdam. For four days, this renowned art fair, with its focus on young art, will serve as a meeting place for art lovers and professionals from around the world. True to tradition, the organisation will be creating a challenging fair in February in an inspiring context where visitors can experience, discover and purchase new works of art.
Safe visit in time slots
During Art Rotterdam, to be held in the UNESCO-listed Van Nelle factory with a floor area of more than 10,000 m2, over 100 galleries will be showcasing the work of both up-and-coming and established artists. Visitors and participants are guaranteed a safe visit in an attractive setting in which government guidelines and measures have been implemented. Tickets for Art Rotterdam 2021 are only available for purchase online and in time slots.
For the ninth year in a row, the Mondriaan Fund is organising the Prospects exhibition at the Van Nelle factory during Art Rotterdam. This exhibition will showcase the work of 75 visual artists who received financial support in 2019 from the Mondriaan Fund to jump-start their career. The guest curator will be Johan Gustavsson.
Fifth anniversary of NN Art Award
For the fifth year in a row, the NN Art Award will be presented on Wednesday 3 February. The initiator of the award, NN Group, is an insurance and asset management company (whose portfolio includes Nationale-Nederlanden) with a long history of culture sponsorship. With this award, which has proven to be a true barometer of talent in recent years, NN Group is spotlighting the exceptional quality of the Dutch art academies. The jury of art experts, whose composition changes annually, will be announced in November. The work of the four nominees will be on display at the NN Art Award stand in the exhibition area. The winner will receive an incentive prize of 10,000. Past winners are the Quistrebert (2017) brothers, Pauline Curnier Jardin (2018), Katja Mater (2019) and Ana Navas (2020).
Ana Navas comments, "Receiving the NN Art Award was not only an honour and a means to increase my visibility, but also a tremendous boost for my artistic production. Thanks to this financial support, I was able to expand my study into the legacy of modern art, which led to new works that are on display this year in galleries such as the Sagrada Mercancía in Santiago de Chile and Nest in The Hague."
Els Drummen, curator of the NN Group company collection, explains, "The NN Art Award has proven its worth in recent years, with winners, as well as nominees, who have excelled in the art sector and a new jury of art experts each year. We offer a venue and ensure exposure to a wide audience, both at the art fair and online. Especially in these turbulent times, the urgency to support artists and galleries with our award is tangible. We look forward to next year - and to our fifth anniversary."
For the first time in 2021: NN Art Public Award
The NN Art Public Award will be presented on the final day of the art fair, Sunday 7 February. This is the first time that visitors can cast their vote. The winner of the public award will receive a cash prize of 5.000,-.
