Graphic Designers and Animation Experts Flock to iGaming Industry

When graphic designers first plan their career, at first many look to marketing departments or website agencies, while those that want to get into software design tend to research gaming companies.

Yet, there is an increasing number of graphic designers as well as animation experts finding their way into another industry, they may never have seen themselves joining when they first started in this line of work.

In today’s world, when more and more graphic design’s exibitions are taking place, the big money for graphics designers is in real money iGaming design where large corporate gaming firms are drumming up business worth billions of dollars. Right now, the online casino gaming is booming in almost every country where it is legal to place bets online, and every game released into this competitive and immensely popular marketplace requires a team of graphic designers and animation experts.

When the industry first began to find its feet back in the 1990s, there were few companies with the skill and expertise to design and release online casino games. However, as we head deeper into the 21st Century, there seems to be a new iGaming software developer breaking into the online casino scene almost every quarter.

From just Microgaming, Playtech, and NetEnt the market now boasts names such as Red Tiger Gaming, Thunderkick, BetSoft, 1x2 Gaming, GameArt, Amatic, Blueprint, Pragmatic Play, and there are more than 100 other names to add to this list. These firms are spread across the globe from San Francisco to Tokyo, over to Belgrade, down to Malta, back up to Madrid, through London, and back over the pond to New York and Las Vegas!

Many of these firms are either brand new operations or companies coming over from another gaming design sector - all of them with the aim of designing video slots and table games played for real money where the rewards for creating a successful game are immense.

As such, every one of these new iGaming developers comes with a team of expert and very artistic graphic designers who are highly skilled with creative minds that can bring something new to what is currently a hugely competitive market.

Many of the graphic designers involved in iGaming design today started within social gaming, online games, console game design, and mobile gaming design. Their skills and knowledge of ‘what gamers want’ transfer perfectly into the iGaming industry.

Some of the main attractions pulling graphic designers into the iGaming industry include consistency, job security, and high salaries. On top of this, iGaming companies provide those that enjoy challenging and creative workloads with job satisfaction as the designers get to see their work released across multiple projects.

With the current aggressive rollout of new HTML online casino games, especially in the online slots gaming arena, graphic designers have never been more in demand.
A single software developer could produce up to 3 video slot titles per month, and each game requires a background theme, reel designs, numerous symbols need creating so they can be placed on the slot game’s reels, and then there are paytable and other image designs that go into the final product. These images need to be flawless on every device they are displayed which could be a small smartphone screen up to a large computer monitor depending on how the player decides to interact with the slot game.

On top of this, animation artists need to do their bit as nearly all modern online slots come with moving parts for special features, bonus rounds, and symbol combination wins. To see exactly how much artwork goes into a single online slot take a look at Playcasino slot games and click on any of the slots reviewed on this website – many of these slot titles come with a free play version available.

It isn’t just online slots that require expert graphic designers. There are tons of other real money betting games out there, Scratchcards, Vegas to Atlantic City-themed blackjack tables, themed roulette games, jackpot games that payout thousands and sometimes millions in prize money. On top of this, even sports betting sites are in the act with their virtual football and horse racing games.

In 2017 the iGaming industry was worth US$45.8 billion globally and by 2024 it is predicted to be worth US$94.4 billion. These figures are spread amongst poker, bingo, casino gaming, and sports betting.

Considering iGaming is a niche market aimed mostly at adults when we compare that stat to the overall global online gaming market (all gaming online including social, PC, Xbox gaming) which is predicted to grow to US$200 billion by 2024, iGaming will be worth 25% of this market. These figures speak for themselves and are exactly why graphic designers see the iGaming industry as a safe market to pursue a career.
