MINNEAPOLIS, MN.- The Walker Art Center is realigning the organization to center audience engagement and the impact of its programs on the communities it serves. A new department titled Public Engagement, Learning and Impact will be created and Nisa Mackie, currently the Director of Education and Public Programs, has been promoted to lead this area of organizational focus at the senior leadership level. Mackie will report directly to Executive Director, Mary Ceruti. Another new leadership position, Head of Content and Communications will also be created as part of the re-alignment with responsibilities for refining and amplifying the public voice of the Walker through design and digital communications. That position has not yet been filled.

The new structure centers and prioritizes audience and community engagement initiatives as well as design, digital and communication strategies—areas that had been identified for investment as part of the museum’s interim strategic plan last fall. “This is a step towards the next chapter at the Walker. This strategic re-alignment and re-focusing of resources will make the Walker better prepared to fulfill our potential of connecting the most innovative artists and ideas with audiences here in the Twin Cities and around the world.” comments Mary Ceruti, Walker Executive Director.

The realignment will result in nine new roles created, seven staff promotions, five eliminated positions, and three changes to existing roles. Additionally, four contracted roles will become Walker staff members.
