DESIGNMAI To Take Place in Berlin in May
DESIGNMAI.

BERLIN,GERMANY.- In May 2005, Berlin-based festival DESIGNMAI will take place for the third time. From May 5 - 16, 2005 there will be a host of events of all kinds, offering insights into the contemporary design scene. The aim of this year's motto "Brave New Worlds" is to encourage people to look at how present-day design is gaining in social importance - be it through advertising, in the context of the home, through genetic research, plastic surgery or the continual emergence of new living spaces.

DESIGNMAI 2005's core events will include several exhibitions. One of these is the exhibition "Young + German", a project supported by the Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes). The exhibition will be presenting the most interesting positions of a new generation of German designers and will be shown at Designer's Week in Tokyo in October 2005. The Symposium "Blueprints of Tomorrow", realized with the support of the "Hauptstadtkulturfonds" in the DESIGNMAI-AUDITORIUM will showcase various scenarios relating to designs for our environment, lives and bodies that explore the interrelation between design and society.

Alongside these central events, as before, the festival will be characterized by a vast array of small events and presentations spread throughout the city. Two other central venues, namely the SHOWROOM and YOUNGSTERS, will also be featuring a wide-ranging survey of the major international players and trends in design. The SHOWROOM will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase unusual one-off designs and small series and the YOUNGSTERS exhibition will be spotlighting the most talented upcoming designers inside and outside Germany.
