BOSTON, MASS.- A Mary Blair concept storyboard painting of Alice from Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland sold for $26,625, according to Boston-based RR Auction.

The vibrant original concept storyboard painting by Mary Blair featuring Alice from Alice in Wonderland depicts the instantly recognizable title character in her blue dress from an aerial viewpoint, showing her seated in tremendous size after growing high above the canopy of Tulgey Wood. The painting is rendered with an array of lush and verdant greens while offering an entirely unique perspective and scenario not found in the final Disney product. Accomplished in tempera and watercolor on illustration board. A beautiful panorama storyboard from the classic Disney fantasy.

Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World), and her most significant work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.

"We're seeing incredible interest and prices from collectors on these original one-of-a-kind pieces of Disney artwork that we believe are undervalued," said Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction. "It may also be the fact that many cannot commit to a full Disney theme-park experience due to the current COVID-19 restrictions and are looking for alternative ways to experience and enjoy Disney.”

• Eyvind Earle concept storyboard painting from Sleeping Beauty sold for $23,152.

• Eyvind Earle concept painting of a Native American village from Peter Pan sold for $21,578.

• Mickey Mouse production cel from Traffic Troubles, with production background from The Picnic sold for $18,750.

Among other highlights from the sale:

• Beatles sought-after A Hard Day's Night signed album sold for $47,187.

• John Quincy Adams letter relating to his campaign to defend the right to protest slavery sold for $20,425.

• Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson signed document sold for $21,888.

The Fine Autographs and Artifacts featuring Animation sale from RR Auction began on June 19 and concluded on July 8.
