Oan Kim: Recent Photographs at White Box |
NEW YORK.- The Annex is pleased to present, in conjunction with the Lee Kang-So exhibition at White Box, an exhibition of recent photographs by Oan Kim. Of Korean decent, Oan Kim was born in 1974, in Saint-Denis France and lives and works in Paris.
Selected works from two recent series of photographs will be on view. The first one is a color series about the city of Seoul in which Kim observes the chaos and anarchy of densely populated environments. These lively large format photographs capture the swirl and bustle of street life in contorted and abstracted de-constructions of the space and with saturation of the surface with rich color.
The second black and white series were also taken on the street, but taken in many different cities, from Honolulu or Paris to Buenos Aires or Manchester. The approach in this series is formally quite different with Kim seeking a flatter and more orderly organization of the images in subdued and ghostly shades of gray. The images are often divided into separate entities of subject and environment and are calmer and more melancholy.
