How to Choose the Best Magnetic Drill Press

A magnetic drill is a particular type of drill. A magnetic drill takes on the same tasks as a regular drill. The essential difference, however, is that the magnetic drill is equipped with a permanently integrated electromagnet, which of course is electrically operated. This serves to fix the machine firmly on a steel part. It cannot slip, nor can it be displaced when the magnet is activated.

However, these drills are very heavy and weigh much more than simple drills. Basically, they are used in metalworking and steel construction. The handyman, yet, usually found in the development of the home a useful use for a magnetic drill. The magnetic drilling machines developed for home use are slightly smaller than those for superior steel construction.

HOW DOES A MAGNETIC DRILL WORK?
First, the drill is placed on the work piece to be machined. Thanks to the powerful magnet, the heavy machine can even be used vertically or overhead. However, at least two people should always be present for safety reasons since the magnetic drill brings a very high weight. After switching on the magnet, the machine sticks to the desired place. Now the drill is lowered by lever to drill the hole. Both drills and drill bits can be used.

The strength of the magnet can otherwise be regulated. At least for most models.

WHAT DO YOU USE THEM FOR?
A magnetic drill is used exclusively for drilling in steel. Other materials cannot be processed. For this purpose, other drills are to be used. Due to the strong magnet, the machine can be fixed to the desired steel part and reliably drill holes. Whether in mounted steel girders or in steel elements which are to be processed further, the magnetic drilling machines are used. Essential is safe and careful handling because these drills are not to be underestimated because of their high weight. With the help of magnetic drilling, machine holes can be drilled in steel beams and steel elements.

WHAT SPECIAL FEATURES ARE THERE WHEN WORKING?
This drill can only be used for steel. It has, depending on the torque a reliable performance and drills holes of various sizes in the steel. For this purpose, different drills and drill bits are used.

The unique feature over conventional drilling machines is that the magnetic drill press has a strong electromagnet inside. If an appropriate power supply activates this, the magnetic drill is liable to the desired place. Slipping is not possible. Some manufacturers offer separately safety belts, which can be additionally mounted when working vertically or even overhead. This is usually necessary if a battery and not by electricity power the machine.

WHICH MATERIALS CAN BE PROCESSED?
Only steel can be worked with a magnetic drill. All other materials cannot be processed with it. For this purpose, as already briefly mentioned, to use different tools.
The magnetic drill was designed exclusively for this purpose. In steel construction, even in areas that are difficult to access, it can reliably drill holes and drill core holes without having to bring the steel element to a workshop.

WHICH ACCESSORIES ARE NEEDED?
The chuck is essential for changing between the individual drills and drill bits. Not always, this key is part of the magnetic drill. Furthermore, at least one set with different drill bits or milling drills is recommended to be able to work as versatile as possible.

Meanwhile, there are already magnetic drilling machines, which work with a battery. However, these are not as powerful as the counterpart, which works with electricity. If you want to buy a magnetic drill with battery, you should think of the safety belt for the machine as an accessory. This ensures that the drill does not accidentally slip or fall when the battery is slowing down because the magnet inside is powered by the battery and not as usual on the power supply.

What Things should focus before buying the Best mag drill?
The torque indicates how much the drilling power will ultimately be. Therefore, this statement is probably the most important when it comes to the purchase of a magnetic drill. So if you buy a machine with high torque, you can rely on strong drilling performance. Besides, the machine should, of course, also bring a certain amount of power. As a rule between 700 watts and 1,000 watts are recommended.

It can also be advantageous if the magnetic drill is already equipped with a set of different drill bits or cutters.

A magnetic drill with battery is only recommended if the user is not too often and usually be of reasonably short duration. It is essential here that one thinks of the corresponding safety belt.

HOW TO ATTACH A MAGNETIC DRILL
Before commissioning and securing the magnetic drilling machine in its intended location, the drill or core hole drill must be installed properly. If done correctly, the magnetic drill can be connected to the circuit and the correct position positioned on the workpiece.

Of course, the exterior should be washed earlier and clean chips, oils, or other coatings. The magnetic field of a magnetic drill adheres to any material made of steel, which must have a thickness of at least 20 mm. A magnetic drilling machine is by no means suitable for non-precious metals since these are not magnetic and the magnet does not react with these materials and thus does not adhere.

APPLICATIONS
The possible uses of a magnetic drill are very similar to those of a fixed drilling machine. With the difference that the base of the magnetic drill is a powerful electromagnet. The magnet makes it possible to adjust the magnetic drill on any surface made of steel and in every possible position.

However, the material must have magnetic properties, because, on non-ferrous metals (non-precious metals), the electromagnet finds no magnetic adhesion. Thanks to individual brackets that allow a magnetic drill to be mounted on a pipe with a large diameter, the use of a magnetic drilling machine are very flexible. However, if it is finally fixed in place, it can only be removed after the work is done.
