Roulette Wheel Layout Explained

Roulette is undoubtedly one of the most popular casino games in the world. Try walking through a casino and observe where most gamblers are. More than likely you’ll see a horde of players standing around the Roulette wheel, cheering with every spin. The popularity of Roulette has transferred well over to online casinos. In fact, most gamblers prefer playing Roulette online as it comes with various perks like free Roulette spin and double deposit bonus to name a few.

The key to getting good at Roulette is to understand the logic and design of the game. While the positioning of the number and colour pockets on the wheel seems totally random, it most certainly isn’t. This blog post will give you an insight into the layouts of the different Roulette wheels. Read on!

American wheel layout
There are 38 pockets on the American Roulette wheel, ranging from 0 to 36, plus the additional 00 number. 18 of these pockets are black, the other 18 are red, while the two slots featuring 0 and 00 are green. The slots are placed on the opposite side of the cylinder, just like consecutive numbers while overall there are no adjacent numbers.

American Roulette is known for having the highest casino advantage, peaking at 5.26%. The clockwise sequence of the numbers on the wheel goes like:

0, 28, 9, 26, 30, 11, 7, 20, 32, 17, 5, 22, 34, 15, 3, 24, 36, 13, 1,00, 27, 10, 25, 29, 12, 8, 19, 31, 18, 6, 21, 33, 16, 4, 23, 35, 14, 2.

European wheel layout
The European Roulette wheel has a single zero, which makes it a good choice for those who want to improve their odds of winning. House Edge is significantly reduced, and players can win more in the long run. The zero slot is green and the 36 numbers are split in half, with 18 being red and the rest black. The clockwise sequence of the numbers on the wheel goes like:

0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25, 17, 34, 6, 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10,5, 24, 16, 33, 1, 20, 14, 31, 9, 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26.

There are some specific bets that are related to the European wheel layout. These bets are placed by the dealer when the player asks him. The dealer confirms the bet to avoid any misunderstandings. The bets are:
