Macbook 101: A Simple User Guide for Beginners

Around the world, 10% of PC users are using Macs.

If you have recently joined these millions of users, you may be unfamiliar with Apple's operating system and figuring out how to make everything work.

Are you new to the world of Apple and Macbook? Here's our Macbook 101 guide to help you make the switch.

Figure Out How to Right Click
If you're used to a Microsoft or Windows operating system, you may be really confused by trying to figure out how to right-click on a MacBook.

You may try pressing on all parts of the trackpad, but the right-click still won't work.
Even if doesn't seem obvious at first, we promise that you can still right-click on a MacBook.

There are actually two ways that you can right-click on the MacBook. Normally with MacBooks, it's called the secondary click though.

To do it on a MacBook, you can touch the trackpad with two fingers at the same time.

You can also press the control button and then touch the trackpad. It may be a little different than what you're used to, but after a while, you should be able to get used to it. Once you master it, you would want to explore more. Here is the option to buy or sell macbook pro, conveniently.

Set Up Auto Unlock
If you want to make sure your Mac is secure, you should set up a really strong password. This will likely be something that will be inconvenient to type each time, but don't worry.

You can still unlock your computer quickly without having to retype it each time.

Auto Unlock lets you unlock your computer with just your Apple Watch. If you have your Apple Watch and computer linked to the same account, your computer will unlock just by having your watch close to it.

That way, you can still have your really strong password but unlock your computer easily without doing anything.

The Touch Bar
One of the newest updates with the MacBook Pro is the Touch Bar.

This is an OLED panel that is located above the keyboard. It replaced the row of function keys.

The panel can change depending on what is on your screen, meaning it will customize the buttons to what it thinks would help you best. You can also customize it and set up different apps to help improve your workflow.

If you want to learn more about how to use this, you can always use the Safari browser on the computer to learn more. If your Safari is broken, learn how to fix Safari on Mac.

Spotlight Search
Once you've figured out how to use the Touch Bar, you should also learn how to use the Spotlight Search.

This may be one of the best features that you can find on any Mac.

To do this, press the Command Button and then the Spacebar. A search bar will pop up, and you can search for anything in that bar, and it will search the entire computer.

You can use this to find a document, start an app, or even solve basic math equations.

This is one of the most powerful things that will be on your computer, so it's important you know how to use it.

Figure Out the Dock
Once you've figured out the Spotlight Search, now you'll need to figure out how to use the dock and how to customize it.

The dock is the place at the bottom of your screen that houses all the icons for different apps on your computer. You should put the apps that you use most frequently there.

If you are currently running an app, they should appear in the dock. If they don't, you'll need to add them. Apps you are currently using should have an underline or some indicator that you're using it.

To configure the dock, you just need to add or remove apps. If you want to add an app, you have to have it up and running. One it's running, it'll show up in the dock.
Right-click on the app, and then select the options button. Then select "Keep in Dock."

If you want to get rid of it from your dock, you can click on the app icon and then drag it without releasing the touch. Your Mac will make a "poof" sound effect, and then the app will disappear.

The app isn't deleted; you just removed it from the dock. You can always add it back if you want to later.

Use Finder
The Finder is kind of like the Spotlight Search, but the Finder will search every single thing on your computer.

It can be the best way to find what you're looking for. The best part of this is that you'll have access to finding stuff in your cloud-based programs as well, so you won't have to spend time searching in those as well.

The Mac App Store
The Mac App Store is where you'll be able to find most of the applications to install on your computer.

If you need to update your Mac or the operating system, you'll go here to download it. You should visit it often to see if there is any new content that can help make your workflow easier.
