The Most Popular Batik Motifs in Indonesia



Batik, actually has been popular for a long time. Many people are willing to go to cities in Indonesia such as Cirebon, Pekalongan, etc., just to hunt batik. In fact, our motives are very popular with foreign tourists and many also make it an inspiration for world-class designers you know!

Well, since October 2, 2009, when batik was finally recognized by UNESCO and Indonesian batik was designated as a humanitarian heritage for oral and non-material culture, then every October 2 finally became a moment of national batik day commemoration for Indonesia. Mega Mendung Batik Motif (Cirebon)

Priyangan Motif (Lake)

Gentongan Batik Motif (Madura)

Seven Fine Batik Motif
This Pekalongan motif has a thick natural nuance. Usually, Pekalongan batik displays a form of animal or plant pictorial motifs. Motifini is inspired by local culture, a mixture of local and ethnic Chinese. Simbut Batik Motif (Banten)
Leaf-shaped similar to a daunt pedestal, Batik Simbut is the simplest motif, only arranging and tidying up one type of motif. This motif originated from the interior Bedouin tribe in Sunda which is thick with old civilizations, until now. Now, Bedouin residents who accept modernity develop this batik in the coastal areas of Banten, so it is better known as Banten batik.

Pring Sedapur Motif (Magetan)
This simple and elegant motif is in the form of a bamboo motif, so it is often also referred to as Pring batik. This motif is indeed a simple philosophy, where bamboo gives a meaning of tranquility, shade and harmony. In addition, bamboo / pring also has a deep philosophy for Javanese people, that is, everything in us must benefit others, from birth to death.

Parang Motif (Java Island)
Parang, as we know it as a weapon resembling the letter "S" with a long, choppy slant, is the main motif of this batik. Parang motifs are spread throughout Java, starting from Tegah, Jogjakarta and West Java. The difference is in the slope accent / placement of this machete motif. For example, in Jogja there are Parang Damaged and Parang Barong motifs, in Central Java there is Parang Slobog, and in West Java there is Parang Klisik.

Kawung Motif (Central Java)
This batik is inspired by the shape of the fruit and fruit. The shape of the oval groove is arranged four sides in a circle. The Kuwung motif is often identified with an old ten-cent motif, because of its round shape with a hole in the middle. This motif originated and developed in Central Java and Jogjakarta. Usually the motive is the same, only the difference is the decoration or accent. This batik is also one of Indonesia's most widely used batik motifs.

Keraton Batik Motif (Yogyakarta)
Keraton batik motifs derived from Javanese culture that is thick with the palace and empire system. This palace batik symbolizes wisdom, wisdom, and also the charisma of Javanese kings. Formerly, batik from Yogya can only be used by residents keraton only, but now it is commonly used by anyone. Characteristics of Keraton batik motifs are symmetrical floral motifs, or me birds, known as sawat lar motifs. This motif is arguably the most widely used by both Indonesians and foreigners.
