LOS ANGELES, CA.- Juliens Auctions, the world-record breaking auction house to the stars, held its year-end auction event Property From The Estate of Mrs. Nancy Sinatra on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in Beverly Hills, CA in front of a spirited audience of collectors, fans and bidders live on the floor, online and on the phone.
Nearly 600 lots featuring a collection of fine art, furniture & decorative art, silver, jewelry and more owned by the legendary Hollywood couple, Frank and Nancy Sinatra Sr., during their marriage as well as items collected by Mrs. Sinatra over her long life were offered for the first time at auction.
The top selling item was a Steinway & Sons Model B grand piano purchased by the Sinatras in 1949 that sold for $106,250, well over its original estimate of $40,000. Over the years, the piano has been played on or sung next to by Nat King Cole, Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen, George Burns, Milton Berle, Johnny Mercer, Michael Feinstein and many more 20th century luminaries at the couples home on 320 N. Carolwood Drive. The Sinatras oil on canvas, St. Patricks in Winter, 1943, signed Guy Wiggins N.A. also sold for $100,000 (original estimate $60,000). A Dalzell Hatfield Galleries Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles label with typed title, artist information and price $600.00 is affixed to the painting.
Highlights of the auction with winning bids include: a bronze bust of Frank Sinatra by artist Robert S. Berks that was created for the November 14, 1976 Scopus Awards ceremony honoring Sinatra, who gave in excess of $1 million during the course of the 1970s to The American Friends of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem ($6,250); an oil on canvas, December Evening Fifth Avenue, 1946, signed and dated E. Fiene - 46 ($15,625); "Untitled" (Film Set), an oil on canvas, by Richard Whorf ($7,500); "Untitled" (View from Behind of a Lady Wearing a Hat), an oil on panel, by Grigory Efimovich Gluckmann ($10,000); "Untitled", an oil on canvas by Johann Berthelsen ($7,500); Frank Sinatras "F.S." monogrammed Hartmann wardrobe trunk ($7,680); a pair of patinated metal lion statues from Frank and gifted to Nancy which stood at the front entrance of her home on 1121 N. Beverly Drive ($4,375 nearly twenty-two times its original estimate of $200) and more.
