What Were Some of the Biggest Art Sales Last Year?

If you've got a bit of money, you might fancy purchasing a bit of fine art. While prices can vary, these next few paintings might have been out of your price range. The real dream is finding a cheap painting nobody realized was worth anything, only for it to be revealed as by an old master. Keep visiting those flea markets and you could be next. Alternatively, you could just head down to the local casino or online bookmaker with a bonus code like casino-bonuscode.us---the odds might be better.

However, if you want to know what some of the biggest sellers in the fine-art world were last year, you're in the right place. In this article, we're going to look at a few choice picks so that you know where the big money is going. Perhaps you're looking for some new artwork to hang on your wall after your recent lotto win? Maybe you think you've found some treasure at the local flea market that could be as good as a lotto win itself. Or maybe, you're just interested in art and want to know what's been popular in the last year or so.

Let's have a look at a selection of some of the most expensive art sales in 2018:

Nu Couche by Amedeo Modigliani
This artist might not be as famous as some of the other names on this list. He's not a household name, but he's a big name in the art world, and that's why his 1917 painting sold for the most out of any artworks in 2018. This painting fetched a whopping $157million at Sotheby's in New York in May 2018.

Auction's from this artist's collection are rare, so when this painting hit the market it actually had the highest ever pre-sale estimate of $150million, which it managed to surpass.

Fillette à la corbeille fleurie by Pablo Picasso
May must have been a big month in the art world, especially in New York---because this painting sold at Christie's on May 8th for $115,000,000. Making it the second-highest sale of the year. Unlike Modigliani, you've probably already heard of Picasso as he's one of the biggest names in art history. This 1905 painting carried an estimate of $100million. It was touted by some to be the sale of Century. Perhaps these experts are a little disappointed that it didn't even rank the biggest sale of the year? Even so, it's one of the biggest sales of all time, they just happened to both happen within a week of each other.

Chop Suey by Edward Hopper
This is another big sale by a lesser-known artist. That's lesser-known if you aren't an art expert, because collectors certainly know who this painter is---he's one of America's own master artists. Hopper's Chop Suey sold in November for over $90million, making it the third biggest sale of the year, in a year that had seen some absolutely massive sales already.
