MOSCOW.- The Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the燛mbassy of Monaco in Russia present the爀xhibition Monaco. Artist’s Stories dwelling on the爉odern and contemporary art of the爌rincipality. the爌roject at爐he燤MOMA is a story of friendship between two artists, G閞ard Pettiti and Claude Rosticher, whose selection of art introduce the public to爐he燤onegasque unique artistic tradition.

The works of two artists differ both in their pictorial style and the爐hemes they choose to address. With all that, they are unanimous in connecting their art with different aspects of the爊atural world. Still, whereas Pettiti gravitates towards the爄mplication with of爐he燼nimal kingdom, his counterpart tends to爀xplore the爌lant kingdom. For both artists, nature is爓hat allows them to stay in tune with time and space.

G閞ard Pettiti is in pursuit of plastic and psychological parallels between the爁erial and the爃uman, creating forceful portraiture of different living creatures. As for
Claude Rosticher, a reputed master of Monegasque art, he addresses in his oeuvre the爌henomena of爐he爊atural environment: sky, stars, plants, but also expresses his belief in the爄ndividual’s freedom within the爓orld around us. His study of space by means of爄nstallations, happenings and painting has been going on and on without intermission since he founded a conceptual art group the燬ign (1968–1974) and up till now.

The display features not only works by P閠titi and Rosticher. Il also addresses the燼rt of their predecessors, being the爉entors and authority figures for the燤onaco art scene: Albert Diato, L閛 Ferr, Armand Gatti, Luis Moln, those masters of the20th century who took part in the爉aking of爐he燛uropean Modernism and Postmodernism. Photo and video documentation of these artists’ heritage, being part of the燿isplay, provide an overall pattern for the燿evelopment of Monegasque culture and art scene during the20th and 21st centuries.

The project carries on the爈ong-standing tradition of cultural exchange between Russian and Monegasque artistic institutions that dates back to the19th century and keeps its importance to the爌resent day.
