Impakt Festival 2004 Opens in Utrecht
Impakt Festival 2004

UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS.- From October 27 until October 31 the 15th edition of the Impakt Festival will be held at several locations in Utrecht. During five days Impakt is presenting innovating and unique audiovisual art in all its forms. At Xpodium gallery, ‘t Hoogt filmtheatre, Kikker theatre and Flatland gallery you can see, hear and experience music, film, installations, digital media and performances. Impakt is constantly following the current developments in our visual culture and wants to stimulate young and new talent. This leads to a annual festival where exciting, innovating and revealing art gets a chance to show itself.

With this years theme ‘Cultural Autopsy’ Impakt focuses on the view of the outsider on our western civilization and culture and, parallel to this on the way we perceive and depict cultures that are foreign to us. Special guests in the program are Lisl Ponger and Johan Grimonprez. The Austrian filmmaker Lisl Ponger tries to analayse the intercultural public opinion in her work. The basis of her film consists of tourist S-8 homevideo’s. Johan Grimonprez is a Belgian videoartist, who’s work has been shown at exhibitions all over the world. He tries to dissect cultural manifestations and the wishes and fears which are enclosed in these manifestions through an antropoligical viewpoint.
Besides showing their own work both Lisl Ponger and Johan Grimonprez will also curate a section in the 'Cultural Autopsy' program.

The British curator Clare Manchester is presenting the exhibition ‘We are the Flowers in the Dustbin’, in which the works from six international artists takes an ironic look at contemporary culture. Everyday life is interpreted with a sense of humour and irreverence, thereby encouraging a new perception of reality and an alternative viewpoint on the daily environment around them.
