Contemporary Photographs, part of the Lambert Art Collection.

NEW YORK.- Phillips, de Pury & Company proudly announces the sale of Veronicas Revenge, a collection of Contemporary Photographs, part of the Lambert Art Collection. This collection, exhibited in recent years in many museums in Europe and elsewhere, has been acclaimed as one of the most important collections of its kind.
Consisting of more than 300 works, the collection defines the transition of photography from the tradition of visual lyricism found in the documentary image to its conceptual and plastic handling by contemporary artists. The Collection will be sold at Phillips New York headquarters in two sessions, on the evening of Monday, November 8 and the morning of Tuesday, November 9. Phillips, de Pury & Company anticipates the entire sale to fetch well over US$10 million.
Baroness Lambert, continuing a family tradition of collecting initiated by her late brother-in-law, Baron Leon Lambert, of Bank Brussels Lambert, Belgium, has been solely responsible for the choice of works for the collection, which belongs to a foundation. The foundation has decided to sell this ensemble, which I know to be unique, says Baroness Lambert. It has been an unforgettable adventure for me, and I have always considered the quest for artworks to be more important than the actual possession of the works.
Simon de Pury, Chairman of Phillips, de Pury & Company, says I am thrilled that Baroness Lambert has entrusted us with this remarkable collection. For many years, I have admired her ability to lead the understanding of what defines photography as art. This collection is a tribute to her pioneering spirit and vision and reflects, in a unique way, the present state of this medium which has become one of the most prevalent means of artistic creation.
The auction of these many works, amongst which such prominent artists as:
Man Ray, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Larry Clark, Gordon Matta-Clark, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Thomas Schutte, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Wolfgang Tillmans, Fischli and Weiss, Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Robert Gober, Charles Ray, Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Gabriel Orozco, Rosemarie Trockel, Janine Antoni and Matthew Barney among others, will be organized by Phillips, de Pury & Company, in collaboration with Philippe Ségalot, of Giraud, Pissarro, Ségalot.
