TOLEDO, OHIO.- Toledo Museum of Art Director Don Bacigalupi recently announced a new staff alignment designed to foster the Museum’s evolution as a dynamic institution. This new organizational structure will strengthen the staff’s existing culture of teamwork in the constant pursuit of the Museum’s mission to integrate art into the lives of people.

All areas of expertise within the Museum will become part of one of five new branches: Experience, Operations, Advancement, Interpretive Programs, and Collections.

Terry Beamsley leads the Experience branch, which develops the Museum’s activities and amenities to serve current and future visitors. She supervises professional staff in areas such as the School of Art and Design, visitor services, and the Family Center. Since joining TMA in 2000, Ms. Beamsley has served as TMA assistant director and as local project coordinator for both TMA’s bond-funded renovation and the current construction of the Museum’s Glass Pavilion.

Carol Bintz, TMA’s chief operating officer, heads the Operations branch, which manages the effective and responsible care and use of Museum resources. She directs areas including finance, protective services, facilities, and human resources. Ms. Bintz joined TMA in 1991 as controller, and was named COO in 2002. She has served as TMA assistant director, coordinated the Museum’s renovation and preservation projects, and acted as project manager for the construction of the Georgia and David K. Welles Sculpture Garden.

New TMA staff member Joeliene Magoto directs the Advancement branch, which focuses on heightened public awareness of the Museum’s collection and reputation, as well as the development and maintenance of relationships between TMA and individuals, other nonprofit organizations, and businesses. Ms. Magoto directs the Museum’s marketing, membership, and special events areas. Prior to joining TMA in October 2004, she served as the executive director of the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati.

Steven J. Nowak leads the Interpretive Programs branch, which creates and implements programs, events, exhibition design and installation, and educational opportunities that make art accessible and relevant to visitors. Mr. Nowak oversees areas such as programming, Docent education, and educational media. Mr. Nowak joined TMA in 1988 and has served as organizational development coordinator and strategic planning manager. He instituted the Museum’s ongoing audience research initiative and facilitated the development of TMA’s current strategic plan.

Carolyn Putney, TMA curator of Asian art, now also heads the Collections branch, which addresses the development and management of the Museum’s collections and collections-related information. Ms. Putney manages areas including curatorial, collection registration, and archives. Ms. Putney joined TMA in 1978 and previously served as the curator of the visual resources collection and managed the curatorial department. In 2000, she received the Museum’s award for outstanding employees—the George W. Stevens Award.

“The leaders I have chosen have evidenced their skills and dedication to this institution, and will provide able coordination and agile leadership of these complex groups,” Dr. Bacigalupi said. “I know that they will ably assist in communications, responsiveness, and leadership. Their work—as part of the Museum’s management team—will ensure the institution’s success in the future.”
